    Hey, I don't make the rules :-D
As I say, I work for DLA Helpline and deal with this query many many times a day. Every claim is of course different however, there are numerous cases where people ring in having not received their Mobility component despite not having collected the car and that is the advice we give them.
Clearly you were one of the lucky ones Nick Nock ;-)
  • Been giving this some thought, I can now see why they do it as some cars are available almost immediately therefore to avoid overpayment I can see why payments stop on provionsional application.

The car I'm getting, one of a few that would accomodate my scooter, hoist and dog has a three month order time. I guess this has been taken into account and DLA informed accordingly.

i guess thats both of us phoning in the morning :D ill phone at 9am:D, there is no way i can go without dla for over 3 months, i think the garages and mobility and dla should tell this to us when there is a waitng list for the car, i also think that dla should inform you that they intend to hold on to your money (by letter) just stoppping it is not very proffessional at all, im waiting because i need auto with h/controls ,loads of manual cars avalible with no wait but not any good to me! i need auto !!!! aaarrrhhhh:(

just got off the phone to dla and motability:
paymenys are only taken from the "proposed" delivery time (not collection time!
(any payments made between "proposed delivery time and "actual car collection time will be given back to you)

the dealer gives the "proposed" delivery time to mobility then just before this time they contact dla ,it is at this point that dla will stop payments direct to you. this in 99% of the time not a problem as this is the same time you will "collect" your car, so all is ok no probs.

BUT if the dealer puts a "proposed" delivery time of say 2 weeks but the car acualy takes 3 months then there is the problem with dla not being payed,( i.e they would withold 2.5 months dla)

motability will think you are getting the car in about 2 weeks they will inform dla who will think you are getting the car in 2 weeks so hold on to any money because they dont want an over payment situation.

so it all comes down to the dealer putting the correct "proposed" delivery time down on the motability system.

if you are in this situation phone motability to confirm what "proposed" delivery date the dealer told them, if this is way out tell the dealer to change it to a more realistic date

if this happens to you ,this "held back" money by dla is not lost you will get it back.

i was told that this only happens to a very small amount of people and is a mistake, (by the dealer)

i was also told that my purchase would of had none of these problems as my dealer put a realistic "proposed "delivery time on the system , so my dla will not be affected untill jan 2011,

if closer to that date the dealer says "there is a problem, the car will be another 2 months, then he will have to enter a new "proposed" delivery date on the motability system to stop this dla money problem happening
    hope this all makes sense
