I'm really not sure where you are getting £150 from? For you and your son the most you should pay is an Anytime Day Return which is £76.50 for the two of you. Depending on what time you return you could shave £5 off that by purchasing an Anytime Day Single for your outward journey and an Off-Peak Day Single coming back, but there are a lot of trains where the Off-Peak ticket is not valid between 4pm and 7pm.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

and we have to be at the Emirates by 10.30am.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of getting from Paddington to the Emirates Stadium. Either a Travelcard incorporated into the railway ticket or an Oyster card will be the cheapest.

Not to sure of the best route whether it's by bus or tube, as the times I go to London to watch football I only go as far as Fulham Broadway to see the blues, such a better class of football.;)

Hi all wondered if anyone could help. We need to travel on Fri 23 rd Dec in peak time from Didcot to Paddington - need to be in London by 9.30am latest
    • Do you have any Railcards?
    • Will you do any more travel other than just going to and from Finsbury Park?
You're probably best off asking in a dedicated Fares, Tickets & Routeing forum, as people there know more loopholes and tricks.

The most this should cost for 1 adult and 1 child is £76.95 to Finsbury Park (or £76.50 to just Paddington), but if you have a Railcard I can find a way to bring this price down to £50.70...

    I've just asked
    http://www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk/
    for its options.
The only self evident cheaper way of making the journey is to check the Bus/coach option:
This gives X32 into Oxford and the first bus is 06:20.
From Oxford you could tap into the cheap 24 hr bus services used by students (eg mega bus).
But as the journey would take 3 and a bit hours rather than one and a bit, would be less reliable and as it is a special occasion, I would bite the bullet and pay the rail charges.
  • Hi. Please help. I'm looking to travel from Edinburgh to Alton Hants on Jan 4th and return on the 6th. I'm finding all the different websites and types of ticket available very confusing. Is there one site or kind of ticket I should be looking at? At the moment the best price is £140 ish and I could fly for less though I'd rather not.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you want a flexible ticket - ie not tie yourself to particular trains - that's probably then best you will do. £138.20 I assume - superoffpeak return. Valid on most but not all trains on your dates

If you commit to specific trains then there are advance singles at £55.50 each way (ie £111). These were on the FGW web site but should be on them all

The East Coast site may offer them at 10% discount so worth checking there

All those prices include cross London transfer

That's quite a journey, but you haven't let us know what date your planning to return, normally it would make a difference but having a quick look the advance fares workout more expensive than the Off Peak Return.

You could splitting at Birmingham New Street but to be honest I think you would be better off asking this question on the RailUK Forum as I'm sure they will know a trick or two to get it cheaper.

And when you get it cheaper, please don't buy from the trainline as they like to charge you fees, you can get it fee free from any Train Company's website.

The rules only allow you to have one season ticket in a ticket split, the other ticket/s must be single or return type tickets, not season tickets. And the train must stop where the tickets change over!
I used to travel into london on a travel card, then when trying to renew a ?kind? telephone sales person for EMT said that I could split it into two season tickets and it would be cheaper and I would not need to use a different train.
Today I was renewing at the ticket office and was told I would be traveling without a valid ticket if I did not change back to a travel card for the whole trip. So a little reading of the national rail terms of travel and there it is in black and white I had been sold an invalid ticket by the telephone operator.
Good thing the ticket inspectors were also not aware there was a problemo or I would have been in for a bit of pain and cost.

Two season tickets are perfectly valid if the train stops where you change tickets.

If it doesn't then it must be a combination of one season ticket and a normal ticket

EMT are not very good on the rules
