    Walk to Birmingham New Street

I have now got written confirmation and or cheques from the rail companies.

For my family's outward journey before Xmas, they have not applied any £10 admin costs and have agreed to refund all of our ticket costs. One of the rail companies has also agreed to give us free 1st-class return tickets as compensation. Will probably use these to get a return trip to London during the Summer.

For our return trip after Xmas, had to pay £10 admin fee to one company. Couldn't get a refund from one of the other companies as we used advanced tickets.

To sum up, I have got a great deal as it would have cost me more by travelling by car and we have also got a free 1st-class return trip as compensation.:j:)

I must be [STRIKE] gormless or is it [/STRIKE] living the dream !! or am I d[STRIKE]r[/STRIKE]zug[STRIKE]g[/STRIKE]ed out ?:laugh:

I have found the following from www.eastcoast.co.uk

FROM GLASGOW CENTRAL TO LONDON KINGS CROSS

Out Fri 8 Apr 2 Adults, no railcards
depart Glasgow Central 0650 OR 0750
arr London Kings Cross 1241 OR 1343
advance single £83.70 (£41.85 each) with on-line discount

Return Sun 10 Apr 2 Adults, no railcards
dep London Kings Cross 0950 OR 1250 OR 1500 OR 1700
arrive Glasgow Central 1615 OR 1923 OR 2038 OR 2245
advance single £83.70 (£41.85 each) with on-line discount

    Total cost £167.40 (£83.70 each)

From Edinburgh Waverley to Kings Cross

Out Fri 8 Apr, 2 Adults, no railcards
    dep Edinburgh 0550 OR 0600 OR 0700 OR 0800 OR 0900 OR 0930
    arr Kings Cross 1011 OR 1040 OR 1151 OR 1241 OR 1343 OR 1410
advance singles £83.70 (£41.85 each) with on-line discount

later trains are a bit cheaper

    dep Edinburgh 1030 OR 1100 OR 1130 OR 1200
arr Kings Cross 1503 OR 1544 OR 1551 OR 1645
These trains are £65 (£32.50 each) for advance singles with on-line discount.

Return Sun 10 Apr, 2 Adults, no railcards

    dep Kings Cross 0950 OR 1050 OR 1150 OR 1250 OR 1430 OR 1500
    arrive Edinburgh 1507 OR 1556 OR 1700 OR 1800 OR 1914 OR 1933
advance singles £83.70 (£41.85 each) with on-line discount

Total cost £148.70 (£74.35 each) OR £167.40 (£83.70 each) depending on your outward journey.

    So to summerise the above
travel via the East Coast line to Kings Cross and it could be £148.70 (£74.35 each), if booked via their website to get their on-line discount.

Travel via the West Coast is coming up a lot more expensive.

There could be cheaper alternatives by splitting the journeys at say Newcastle and/or York.
