Looks like everyone doing well, I'm off up to the Allotment this morning, not been since last Thursday so I know I'll have a lot of watering to do and a bit of deweeding. Apart from that I'm just looking forward to catching up with everyone up there over a cup of coffee, always good to share tips and advice.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Off to the Allotment again today, going to put in my Cabbages, cauli's and Sprouts as I'm running out of space in the Greenhouse. Will need to do more watering too, forecast now saying that we will get rain at the Weekend so hopefully water butts will get topped up a bit."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Put these in yesterday and built a netted cage round them. Back up there again this morning and plan to direct sow some Sweet peas under a "wigwam", had some in the Greenhouse which I put out in the Garden and "something" has dug them all up."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

earthed up my potatoes today - as much as I was able, much easier for those I'm doing in compost bags! Is there a knack to it?
I really need to get my !!!! in gear and dig in another two beds - but each time I schedule time to do it it rains! Typical, I want it too rain for ages and when I plan to do stuff - that's when it rains!0 -
I'm up the Allotment today, not been since Friday, we had a little rain on Friday night and a small amount on Sunday morning so I didn't need to worry about watering. Going to check what I have in the Greenhouse that's ready to go up there so may have some planting to do, other than that I'll just be watering (no rain forecast for here) and weeding.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

There is a bit. First you have to make sure you planted them properly in the first place, so you have enough soil around them to earth up.CommitedToChange wrote: »earthed up my potatoes today - as much as I was able, much easier for those I'm doing in compost bags! Is there a knack to it?
Then I use a azada (http://www.get-digging.co.uk/, other things called digging hoes are also available and similar) and pull the earth from the other side towards the haulms. In this way I can do a very long row in seconds, then turn round and do the other side.
You can use a spade, to pull the earth over the haulms, it's just alot more work.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Have a great day everyone, managed to plant some beans, cucumbers and beetroot and the salad, more beetroot, cabbage and squashes are still in the greenhouse - I'm scared to plant them, last year they were eaten within hours!!You can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt

I used one of those azadas ages ago when a Vietnamese mate helped us with a new garden and always wanted one but hadn't seen them anywhere. Cheers for that link, soon have one now and they are great tools
