Spent the day on the Allotment yesterday - 22 degrees, it was bliss. Finally got my Early potatoes in and a bed of second earlies, deweeded my Strawberry bed and came home feeling really pleased with myself.;)

Have also put some Earlies in the Garden and I'm back up at the Allotment today to put in some Maincrop, forecast great for today too.

How is everyone else getting on?:)

  • I spent a glorious couple of hours on the plot at lunchtime putting up my blowaway and weighing it down with compost bags, growbags and a bag of sharp sand - here's hoping it doesn't blowaway ;) I was gutted to leave but I have to earn rent money - boo hiss.

I hope its still fabulously sunny on sunday when I plan to spend the day on the plot. :D
  • well it is fabulously sunny today, I am just relaxing on the plot with a warm bottle of cider :D

I've weeded and rotated my first bed and planted some potatoes, gained a water butt, gloves and more seed potatoes from my friendly allotment neighbours and got a little sunburnt! I'm totally cream crackered and contemplating heading home.

Hope everyone has had a glorious weekend :D

    Hello folks
I last posted here last October when my allotment was under a lot of water and it continued to be throughout the Winter. What a total mess. Anyhoo, the good news is we got our new plot yesterday and have spent all day up there today. We cleared all the debris off the old plot - there was a lot and started moving stuff onto our new plot. I have sunburn, backache and many nettle stings, but it's SOOOOOOO nice to be back in the saddle :)

Not posted for a long time as been busy potting on in the Greenhouse, trying to tidy the Garden but managed to get to the Allotment a couple of times this week and hoping to get up there this morning if it stays dry.

This week I earthed up my Spuds, deweeded in the onions, garlic, shallots bed, deweeded round the Strawbs, deweeded the Parsnips bed, put twiggy sticks in around my peas and I've sown lettuce, radish, beetroot and spring onions. If I get up there this morning then I plan to dig over a couple of beds that have been covered over the Winter.

What is everyone else up to?;)

I have finally plucked up the courage to phone the number advertised on the new allotments! They have 3 left 50 x 20 in size. Is that an average??? £100 for the year. Is that an ok price? Going up Saturday to see what plots are left with my MIL so watch this space! :)

diddly74 - I'd say go for it, it's the best thing in the world, I've only had my Allotment 16 months and I love everything about it - love growing my own fruit and veg, love the fresh air and exercise, love the community spirit on the Plot - in fact there isn't anything I don't like about it.:D Good luck.;)

    WE GOT ONE!

MIL and I went down this morning to the field where the allotments are, and had a look round before we went and spoke to the owner. When I was a little girl I used to walk past this particular field to school every day and it always had horses in it, but as less people need pasture for ponies I guess the farmer who owns it has decided to put it to other use (I think the family own most of the village fields anyway lol)

We have picked a plot at the top of the field, it isn't very close the the water but it is next to the roadway. 50ft x 20ft and I am dead excited!!!

There is also an option to move closer to the water if we want to as half of the field has not been "developed" yet!

Maybe I had better start thinking about how to lay it out. What is the best size for veg beds??

    Congratulations!

Best to be able to reach all the way around to weed. Are you doing raised beds or more traditional?

A lot at ours dont bother at all and just grow in the whole allotment and use moveable wood to lay down to walk on
