Oh ground elder is a pig tiniest bit of root it can grow

I got it in my garden 3 years back didnt know what it was at first, I spent a whole season dig up the ground looking for smallest root and it fortunately on infected a small area. I got it back year after but I got on top of it in end and hasnt come back

Nettles make good compost. Local councils sometimes sell bins cheap, Netto had some in at good price thsi week apparently

How is everyone doing? I've been up and down to the Allotment a few times in the last week and got loads done, got some more Peas in, put in some Sugar snaps this time, sown some Kale, spring onions, radish, brussel sprouts, cabbages, cauli's, courgette etc.

Also planted 2 Blackcurrant bushes up there, got 2 in the Garden already but you can never have enough Fruit.;)

Weather been a real mixed bag and temperature dropped, really windy here today. Lets hope it's nicer at the weekend, got some more Seeds I want to Sow in the Greenhouse.

    Good luck everyone.:D

Hi guys, glad to see everyone has been so busy while I've been away.

I went to my allotment on Sunday to see how its doing and collect my seed potatoes. The council have finished laying the pipes so now I am just waiting for them to flatten the soil back down as it is currently a huge mount on my plot  They need to pull their fingers out and sort it as I want to get started - I need to plant stuff :T

I'm quite please though as it looks like they haven't buried or lost all my stuff that was on the plot (pallets fencing etc) but actually move it to one side - I was convinced it would all be lost. I'm going up tomorrow to see if any progress has been made. My potatoes are chitting (I think) in their egg boxes and I've convinced the cats to leave them alone (for now ;)) One I know where I am I can start planting seeds in my flat. Getting quite excited now. :j

    Happy allotmenting everyone

I'm off up the lottie tomorrow. I've not been up this week much even though the weather is good. We went up (me and the toddler) on Tuesday and everyone was up there and they all tut tutted when my lo went marauding onto their plots.. just on their paths and round next door's pond. I remember why it was so difficult last year now!
I got a bed raked and a row of broad beans in. I'm hoping to go up again tomorrow to deal with the garlic and onions and to pour a goodly amount of weedkiller on another bit!

Can anyone help with a question?

I was thinking of having a bed of soft fruit, but my allotment books say this is not the time to get canes. They are all in the shops now, so when could you expect fruit from canes put in now? If its next year I'll not bother because I'm short of space.

On another subject, I found my allotment space through Landshare, so it is worth a try, the guy who owns it can't cope with it on his own so I have about a quarter of it for a fraction of the rent. Meanwhile I'm hopefully going up the massive waiting list for one of my own (3-5 years!) So keep trying!
    NST September: SFD 17/20, food £62.87/£60, travel £61.55/£40, Outings £39.80/£100, Allotment £7.17/£30 Other: £42.32, Meditation ?/30.

You would likely get a few fruit if planted now but its like most fruits - you will get more the year after!!

If space is an issue and you want a crop this year dont bother.

When you have your own allotment you can plan for future years and have tons of the stuff

sown 22 types of seeds about 5 days ago, and about a third of them are up (put in airing cupboard). they're now sitting on top of my bookcase in my East-facing bedroom to get the morning til midday light. the peppers and aubergines i've pricked out and they're doing fine. the tomatoes and tomatillos have just come up this morning and hopefully they'll green up soon. i've ordered £20 worth of seeds from T&M's with their £5 off voucher (plus a packet of free seeds of your choice) just now as i couldn't resist buying some new flower varieties!

at the lottie twice last week for about 6hrs in total, and still digging/extending the beds. hoed a lot of weed seeds before they establish themselves. checked on my onion and shallot sets and they're still firmly in place. also, planted some 'Egyptian Walking Onions' (tree onions - perennial) that i got gifted. i can't wait for these to 'walk' for me sometime this summer:p

back on lottie this Tuesday onwards when i've got the time. today going out with PILs for a trip to a new GC that i've not been to before!! can't wait! hope to find some Chempak stuff to fertilise the plants (hear that they're really good brand compared to the others)

Seeds indoors are starting to show signs of life, Beefsteak tomatoes, aubergine and nasturtium are up but no sign of peppers, chillies etc. Got some seeds out in the Greenhouse which I will check tomorrow as it's too grey and drizzly today to venture out there.:o

Planning to get up to the Allotment Wednesday, forecast looks good.;)
