Just got a bill through from Severn Trent water for £129 for the next six months. Seems a bit high to me, given that I live by myself in a one bedroom flat. What do you guys think? About right?

Yeah that's about right, in fact you're lucky!
When I lived in Nottingham - our bill was around £475 a year for a 2-bed flat!! We were unmetered, and cos it was a rented flat we couldn't get the meter changed over!
I wish our bills had only been £260 per year!!0 -

We are on a water meter with Welsh Water and there are two of us in a 4 bedroom house. Our bill is £280.00 per year for last twelve months.
I use washing machine every day. We both shower every day and sometimes i have a bath. I water the garden and use the dishwasher once a day. Our yearly bill was £650.00 so we make a huge saving on a meter:T0 -
Thanks for the info guys. Just paid the bill. Bill seem to be getting rapidly more expensive each year!0

Have you considered having a water meter fitted. It is likely that you would save money.0 -
I doubt it - OP would have to be a very low user to pay less than £20 a month on a water meter. According to this table, the average bill for a one bedroom flat with Severn Trent is £318 per annum (not sure how up-to-date the survey is).

OP's bill of £129 for six months is way under that average.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

I have come across some useless websites in the past but that one has to be the worst.0 -

We are a household of me plus two teenage sons (16 & 18).
We all only ever have shortish showers and never use the bath.
We wash-up by hand.
Our washing machine is a lower water use one but we probably use it daily if all laundry is included.
We don't water the garden or wash the car.
We are metered and my latest bill for about 5 1/2 months is £140.
