We moved to torbay in July and have just had our 1st 3 months bill (£168) decided to go onto monthly DD which is going to cost £78 per month for the year. That is what I call expensive, I do know we are the most expensive in the country. We are on a meter with 2 ppl living in the house.
Treat other's how you like to be treated.

Be grateful you don't live in Scotland.

No water meters and 2 OAPs in a house. Over £480 per year for water and sewage.

    Thats for a Band E property I believe.(Scotland doesn't use RV)

On average customers in Scotland pay less than UK - this from Scottish Water's website.
This freeze, which will come into effect on 1st April 2010, follows four years running that we have kept charges for our household customers flat (below the RPI rate of inflation). As a result, the charge for the average household bill in Scotland (around £324) will continue to be lower than the average household bill in England and Wales.

They would say that though wouldn't they?

Cheapest is band A with a charge of over £262 per year. But for band A you are talking a run down tenement in the slums and even some of them are band B.

A decent 2 bed bungalow which I am thinking of buying when I get my house sold is band D, which is just under £400 per year.

So moving from my 3 bed semi to a 2 bed bungalow will only save me £80.

So what do a couple of OAPs in a 2 bed bungalow on a meter pay in England?
  • Im unmetered at £210 a year with south staffs but if i was metered it would prob be closed to £500-600 year with the amount of water used in the house.I think in the op case trying to move to metered would be cheaper.

Water meters definitely work out cheaper for single people, and often for couples too.
We pay £26 pcm to Yorkshire Water for our metered supply.
There are two of us, plus a cat and 6 chickens, in a large house, using at least 7 washer loads per week, sometimes more, as I do my elderly mum's laundry as well as ours. 4 showers per day. 1 dishwasher load per day, plus my husband has a large tropical fish tank which uses quite a bit.
My friend lives alone, with no pets, in a tiny cottage nearby, and pays £480 annually for her non metered supply. I've just persuaded her to apply for a water meter, which YW will fit free of charge.

The problem in answering that question is that prices vary hugely according to where you live in England. The prices in the South West are well over double the cheapest area.

There are also charges for surface water drainage if your water doesn't go into a soakaway.

I would think for a couple with average consumption, on a meter, an average figure might be £300.
