Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 2nd October 2010 . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

The site is very slow this morning, taken me ages to get us started. Rain here again, and looks like it has been all night, no washing today then unless it brightens up.

DD had two of her friends round yesterday, young lads who were so polite and lovely :T, one of them could not cook a thing, when his mum went away for 10 days he lived on microwave meals, which I think is terrible ( not being able to cook) , anyhoo dd got them both making hm pizza, she was most certainly head chef :rotfl:we dropped them back at the station in the evening, and both boys went back with red painted fingernails :rotfl:

Got some cooked lamb in gravy out of the freezer, was going to do a giant yorkshire with it, but we have no eggs, and I really dont want to go to the shops, so will do mash and veg.

Going to give the bathroom a good clean today, and hoover and mop all floors, also need to do an online shop.

OK better get on, have good days all xx

Hi Ruby (and everyone else who follows!) thanks for starting the thread. Always like a bit of sanity to my mornings, especially when DS2 is shouting at me because he's refusing to get dressed. I'm happily ignoring him - but only for so long!

October already - phew, time flies doesn't it. Today I'm flying round the house - daily clean and tidy up - focussing on the childrens toys today I think. They don't play with half of them, so I'm going to take half away and see what they think!!!! Worked out yesterday that I have loads of food in the freezer and cupboards, so am going to try to not spend very much this month. All because I spent way too much buying bargains last month (oops!). So tonights tea will be Shepherds pie from the freezer, with extra veg and an instant whip thing for the children. Doesn't look too bad outside, but looks a bit chilly. Hopefully we'll have a dry day - just makes a change from the rain!

Going to be madly positive this week - get loads of things done and speak to my MIL to see if I can borrow her sewing machine to put extra linings in the curtains. Have also vowed to do an exercise DVD a day - slimmer for Christmas! Hugs to those in need - I'll be aching tomorrow!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Morning folks, a bit cold and damp here this morning. Not a happy household today as received word last night that a friend of my husbands died suddenly from a massive heart attack, he was only in his early 50's with three teenagers. It has shaken my husband quite badly. Off to work soon DD1 and DGS stayed last night to try and cheer hubby up so have a bit of tidying to do - and trying to put the border back on the bedroom wall where DGS decided to pull it off. Could hear the ripping noise so went upstairs and here he is sitting gaily in his cot, border around him pointing to the aeroplane, trucks etc speaking to himself!!!
HM Quiche, potato wedges and veg for tea, will take some HM soup with me for lunch,
Hugs to all that need them and hope you all have a good day,

    Suzy
    Every days a School day!

Hope you all have a lovely day :)
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait

    Morning all

    (((suzybloo)))

It's a beautiful morning here :D the sun is shining, and the mist is burning off in the distance.

A new group of work kids start today, I've met them all bar 2 (there are 15) and they are a mixed bunch, think they will be a bit of a handful if I'm honest! But we shall see. They are with us for 12 weeks, and they finish the day before Xmas Eve . First day is always hard cos no-one knows each other, and they have to learn all the rules and have induction.

    Have a good day all

    morning all!

off to work later - we're on new 8 hour shifts instead of the 10 and 11 hour shifts we used to be on - the downside for me is 4 less days off per month and an extra 80 miles worth of fuel! but the upside is I 'm hopefully not so tired and get to see Taplord a bit more!:)

DS2 was given his Morrisons discount cards yesterday:j so hopefully that means they are thinking of keeping him! fingers crossed! His first payday is on Friday and he's very excited abut it!:D

I'm sat here looking a fright:eek: got my trackies on and am dying my hair so I dont resemble a badger:D
Have had a tidy up - got loads of washing - first lot in WM now so hopefully can get a second load in before I go - Taplord is very good at hanging it outside.
tea tonight for me is cauliflower cheese and quorn burger with a jacket spud - something meaty for the chaps. Am taking some HM leek and potato soup to work for lunch.

(((hugs))) to suzybloo's DH - what a shock about his friend. My Dad died suddenly like that and its a huge shock for the family.

have a great day all x

    Good Morning Everyone!
Suzybloo - what a shock for the family. They must all be feeling so shell-shocked just now. And your poor DH - it always reminds us of our own mortality when we lose a friend I think. ((HUGS)) and prayers for all concerned.
esmf73 - I plan to take a leaf out of your book and aim for feeling more positive this week! have been feeling very "poor little me" just lately, and it really doesn't help at all!
Day four of the antibiotics, and I think there's a slight improvement!
Have two workmen in my kitchen today - one painting, the other cutting and hanging the nes window blinds. Nearly there at last!
Had hoped to get the WM on, but it'll have to wait as I can no longer easily reach it. Mind, it's not exactly good drying weather today.
Have loads of paperwork to try to get to grips with.
Fitz is a real character - and has bags of energy. Poor DH is having to do all the walking at present, but hopefully I can take a share soon. Fiz is rarely still for longer than 30 seconds! Mollie is somewhat askance at this, but is really enjoying showing how obedient and well-behaved she is. (Funny, shae seems to have learned this overnight!!!)
Anyhoo, enough wittering form me - hope you all have a good day. Take care.

Morning all............................(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Thankfully a bright morning so I might get my washing dry, I have another load in, hope to get that dry too.

This will be the second week I have not done the Monday clean due to guests, will have quite a job next week I guess, even though we were away last week, it does not stop the dust. I think we have a furry visitor....I found two potao's with little teeth mrks and the cupboard where I keep my saucepans had some droppings in. I checked this morning and there were no more teeth marks in the spuds, I just hope the little beggar has not gone to sleep with a mate!! Has anyone tried the sonic deterrants? traps are not my scene, I got my hand trapped in one years ago, I am not keen to repeat the experience thank you!!

SIL has just appeared and demanded beans on toast for breakfast yuk!! what ever was ailing him last night seems to have abated.........hoping to get some work out of him today, I am going to loose the TV control for a while.......
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

    Morning All,
The sun is shining in Glasgow but there is a definite nip in the air. Brrr. Thank you for the birthday wishes for DS yesterday, he had a fabulous day and couldn't believe his luck with the gifts he received, and had a great time at his party. :D Back to school today, although is cough is still pretty heavy.

Suzybloo, hugs for you and yours today, how sad for those children to have lost their father in those important teenage years, too. I will think about them all today.

Plan for the day is to do my housework, and a washing, our bed needs changing as well, but I am trying to hang off and do it on Friday before we go away for the weekend, so I have nice clean sheets to come home to, can't decide what to do about that ATM. Diet restarts today too, I need to try and be positive and see if pretending I feel OK fools my body/mind into getting better.

Hugs for all the poorlies and anyone with troubles.

    Morning my lovelies :D

Weather nice and sunny here :D Bed stripped so need to get the WM on and the stuff on the line asap. Never know how long this sunshine is going to last!

going to be spending most of this week playing catch up on all the housework I didn't do last week. I still feel shattered but then didn't get to bed until 11.30pm :o Shouldn't have stayed up to watch Who Do You Think You Are but I was overtired and didn't feel sleepy. Boy do I feel sleepy now :rotfl:
So in addition to cleaning like a maniac I NEED to prep these apples to make pies before they grow legs and walk out. I've had them over a week and I am sick of them hanging around now. Nearly all my toms have ripened and I only have one jam jar - wanted to make chutney/relish but won't be able to if I can't get my hands on any more jars :o

Sorry not read the end of yesterdays thread, was too busy after DS's birthday party - he had a fab time and his birthday cake was delish :D

JackieG - Glad your DS had a good birthday xx

suzybloo - Very sorry to hear about your H's friend. What a shock for you all. Thinking of you and the family xxx

Right need to get a move on and if I stay on here any longer I'll be here all morning.

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good Monday OS or not.

  • That Who Do You Think You Are was good last night, wasn't it, Bitsy? I really like him, he seems like a decent man (Matthew Broderick for those who didn't see it) I had a wee tear in my eye at the end. I then watched the George Michael concert, which was fantastic, he is a great singer.
