Congratulations to your DS Wilf, on the company sponsorship I would ask for £250 or £500, or specific bits of kit. Is it worth writing to local golf clubs/golf shops/manufacturers? Get someone who is good at writing these things to help! A lot of these things land on my desk - the ones that get past me to MD are the ones with some local/community interest and enough information for me to check it is genuine. We used to sponsor a couple of local people, our name on kit etc but we have new owners who see this as a waste of money sadly. Maybe have a look on the charities/small business boards? Have a look at csr (corporate social responsibility) and pinch some of the buzz words - a lot of the blue chips are big on this, and force their suppliers to do stuff too. Can you set him up as a business an get support from Business Link? HTH

Right, just need to finish my cup of tea then a HHC at 9.30 if anyone would like to join me? Plan is to get the list done, and then move onto some paperwork clearance. Stuck in waiting for DHs old company car to be collected, I have been promised that they will turn up this time!

Thanks to all at FCC for the thread. I do feel that my house is slowly getting cleaner and tidier. I still have loads of clutter in my bedroom but generally I am managing to keep on top of things.

    Congrats to Wilf's DS.

I'm in for a HHC at 9:30 hex, going to try and get kitchen cleaned, then I can do some ironing later and sort out some paperwork.

thanks for the good wishes all

as you can see have joined the £10 per day october challenge but obviously need more, realistically I think i need to make £15 every day for a year to cover the finances

am looking for and have applied for a couple of grants to help but they are few and far between
I was wondering if to ask local businesses for £5 per month, if i got a few businesses it would soon mount up! what do you guys think

Hi wilf. When my son wanted to do a residential theatre course last year he approached and organisation called Young Scot- they give out id cards to kids aged 12-25 in Scotland. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent where you are, but I know Young Scot have grants available as several people in his group got around £350 (not my son though, he'd applied for his card too late!) The local merchants association (organisation supporting shops and businesses in the area) donated £100- perhaps you have such an organisation in you area? The masons often have a youth grant fund (you don't have to be a mason etc- we're not, and they donated to DS) contact your local lodge. Townswomens guild often have youth funds, WRI? I would also directly approach some of the golf courses.
DS2 (age 10) raised a silly amount of money towards an adapted swing for a local play park just by going round our local shops/clubs looking for sponsorship for a sponsored silence. He was astounded!
Hope that helps, sorry if you've already thought about these places, it was just my first thought.

  • Well done Wilf's son!!!!

Our village has a small charity for educational/sporting activities for children (hands out a few hundred£ per child) - I imagine you've asked around your town/village...?

Would local radio be able to help? Broadcast his success and ask if businesses could sponsor?

I'm in again this week, but need to work out what I'm going to do (whether to follow this lists strictly or go 'off-piste'...

    Back soon...

Morning all, I am here this week again. I have realised that I have a very bad habit - I come on here on a Monday morning to say 'I'm in', spend the remainder of the week not acieving much, then come back on Monday to say 'I'm in'. Am really going to try and make a bigger effort this week...just never seem to be enough hours in the day! Off to do a quick tidy in the living room now. Thanks to all for lists and motivation x

Well the baby and I are up, fed and dressed, so that's a good start!

I've also put the wm on as the torrential rain has given way to lovely blue skies here, may as well make the most of it.
