The run of the mill mass market mid range products will always be available at Ok(ish)/sale prices in one of the main stores or on-line.

One stratagy not mentioned is to look outside(above) your price range and wait for the real bargain deal.

A mattress should be a 10y+ purchase so buying when you spot a real bargain rather than when you need a new one is the best way to go.

We have picked up temur and vi-spring doubles both under £500 by just waiting for the local stores to have a proper stock clearance sale rather than the regular never ending promo sales.

Last year a local indi had 2 single vi-springs at £50 each in there easter clearance sale.

Relegate the older but still functional mattress to the spare beds.

Actually out of these Rest Assured (part of the Silentnight group) would be right at the bottom followed by Sleepeezee, Slumberland, Sprung Slumber, and even Relyon have moved down to the lower quality level. Then Restus and Millbrook, and towards the top Kaymed and Healthbeds.

However there are many many more bed manufacturers out there also. Some are very high quality, but charge lower prices than many of those above.

That's interesting. I've got one in my sights a Healthbed

    1000 Pocket Springs (In a 5')
    60kg/m³ Density Memory Foam
    25mm Memory Foam
    25mm Reflex Foam
    Coolmax Cover
    Flag Stitched Handles
    Air Vents

    and £380 from £800.

My parents can't recommend thier Slumberlands highly enough but if it's not rated as well then I may plump for Healthbed. Plus I can't find as good a deal for my price range in the Slumberland. The one is this one 1900 Pocket spings, Foam encapsulated unit (does that mean memory foam though?). £399. The Healthbed seems to offer more for less money?

Slumberland are only not rated, by an online seller that suppiles smaller independent products.

There is nothing wrong with Slumberland.

Foam encapsulated means that the springs are held by foam around the edge of the spring unit and not a rod edge ie metal bar. So not memory foam.

You should be able to get 50mm of memory foam for that money and not a 50% spilt, but then it does have a coolmax cover that will help keep you cooler. All in all pretty good price considering who makes it.

  • I've removed a lot of posts, and I've half a mind to PPR most of the posters on this thread.

I can't go into all this AGAIN, but "mattress" threads are causing SUCH a resource issue for such a small part of this site that if the arguing and bickering continues I will simply start removing accounts. We've been over this a number of times and from our point of view, we can't keep saying the same thing.

Sorry to sound so abrupt but this comes up too many times and we've spent too much time on it. This applies to ALL posters. Last warning.

Mattress is here and on the bed and it's lovely!! Hadn't realised the old one was quite so knackered!! It was like a limp piece of lettuce when we took if off. Thanks again for all your help. Very much appreciated.

Oops, just seen the moderator post above. Apologies for starting the post in the first place, I hadn't realised beds were a potential inflammatory subject that I should have avoided.

That was quick, you where only looking yesterday. Which one did you go for in the end?

Glad your happy, and not your fault for starting what ended up on here. I'm sorry that I spoiled the thread. Promise, my last post on the matter.

I know!! Ordered it yesterday lunch and they did next day delivery and he was here at 10.30 this morning. Went for the Healthbeds one in the end. It was in my price range and had got really good reviews as well as being mentioned on here as a good make. Which seemed to rate it highly as a make too.

I've not told the OH yet though - going to wait and see if he notices a difference lol :)

Don't worry Tye_Bo, it's not your fault, you were just asking advice. Unfortunately as the Forum Manager says, this happens far too often. I suppose if someone goes on a banking thread and exposes dodgy practices then the banks aren't going to come on here and kick up a fuss. However when someone does the same in an industry like the bed industry, with loads of independent retailers, then it is going to ruffle a few feathers. It would be so nice if we could just keep on topic, otherwise it just puts people off.
