Well, I just tried GoCompare/Comparethemarket etc and tried it with a provisional, and then with the full license. Was expensive
Sucked. 0 -
It might be different once you actually pass though and are an existing customer
.
Wouldn't worry about it too much until you actually pass tbh. Insurance shafts everyone I'm afraid

No, this is "head in the sand" advice.
Find out before you buy a policy if passing during the policy year is going to cause any change to the premium.
(Many companies do increase it, some don't, and some will no longer continue to offer cover at all)0 -
I got my car and insurance before passing
Bought car and insurance in Dec 06 and passed in July 07!
Got the no claims bonus etc and my premiums went up about £50 after passing my test (Was with Elephant then)
Only thing when renewing now (up this month), Ive had my licence (full) for 3 full yrs but 4 yrs no claims
sometimes it wont let me put in more no claims than ive had a licence for - depending on their website
Some ask for how long have i had A licence some ask when got Full Licence etc
Was a bit stuck sometimes I wasnt sure to put 4 yrs licence if only had a full for just over 3 yrsMake £10 a day Challenge June - £1700 -
I think I'll call up and just ask the cheapest car insurance guys what the deal will be0

Been looking at insurance for my first car (I'm still a provisional driver)
If I'm policy holder and have my boyfriend as additional driver for 1 year it costs £688
If I'm policy holder with FULL drivers license its £990 with my boyfriend as additional driver.
Anyway, if I do option A, does that then mean if I get a years no claims I can put that towards my next year? If so, my insurance for the following year is £570.
Does it matter if I have a NCB with a provisional license? Will it count towards a no claims bonus? Not sure?
Hi Op.
Would you mind telling me a few things about the figures you have posted .?
Im attempting to buy my Daughter a car - her first as she is just turning 17 next week - and me and her Dad will most likely pay for and sort out her first years insurance.....
I have got quotes from all of the comparison sites with Daughter as the poilicy holder , main driver and owner of the vehicle.
I have also added myself on as a named driver. Now , i have 10 years of driving experience , no claims , no convictions.
Even with me added , the price is still coming up at the 2k mark which to be honest is round about what i expected to pay as i have read enough posts on this site to know that first time insurance is mad !
Then you post up to say you can get first time insurance for yourself and your boyfriend for less than a grand ?
Could you tell us all the company who are willing to insure you ?
Thanks0 -

I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
I'm 23. BF is 25 with 6 years driving insurance and NCB.
Elephant.co.uk - Comprehensive, £250 excess = £666 *FULL UK License* (So that's with the NCB from provisional)
Elephant.co.uk - Comprehensive, £250 excess = £616 *Provisional License*
Oh and the car is only worth £25000 -

If you are provisional for less than a year, collingwoodannual is usually good, but it's a rolling monthly policy, so no ncd is earned.
It can be cancelled pro rata though.
I've been told Bell is reasonable after you pass.0 -

Who are the cheapest car insurance guys?
Apart from the companies who quoted £5000 for our 17 yr old GSon, when his Dad asked the Co-op they quoted £13000.00. I know there are a lot of young uninsured drivers on the road. Is this why? I always thought it was down to the accident records?0
