Insurance help please.
Been looking at insurance for my first car (I'm still a provisional driver)
If I'm policy holder and have my boyfriend as additional driver for 1 year it costs £688
If I'm policy holder with FULL drivers license its £990 with my boyfriend as additional driver.
Anyway, if I do option A, does that then mean if I get a years no claims I can put that towards my next year? If so, my insurance for the following year is £570.
Does it matter if I have a NCB with a provisional license? Will it count towards a no claims bonus? Not sure?

I didn't think you could have an NCB as a provisional driver. The best thing to do is shop around for car insurance. You can't work it out for yourself.
My grandson will shortly be getting his first car and the quote for him is £5000. He has not taken his test yet. His brother who is 19 paid around £1600 which we all thought was horrendous but £5000!!! How many 17 year olds will b able to afford that?0 -
ahh, just found out you can which is aweeeesome

Yes, you get NCB irrespective of which licence you hold.
The premium will usually be less for a provisional holder than when you pass your test, so note that if/when you pass your test you will have to immediately notify your insurer which will result in them amending your premium for the remainder of your insurance year, and could in some cases mean they would nbo longer cover you.
So when looking for insurance as a provisional holder, make sure they will continue to cover you after you pass the test before buying.0 -
Thats a good way to earn no claims though, Cheaper to insure as a learner than a full but new licence holder.
Maths doesnt quite make it worthwhile insuring a car before you actually need to though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
well, I can kinda drive already, my friend insured me on his car and gave me some lessons, and I've already had like 60hrs. Lol. Woops :P0

Junior was put on our insurance in Oct '09 as a learner and bumped our premuims up by nearly £1K.
He passed his test this week and there is no change to our premiums now that he can go out on his own (thank goodness!)2014 Target;

I guess it'd go up for me cause I'd be driving alone, still dead weird tho :S If anything I wouldve thought seeing's I'd passed my test, the cost would go down lol0 -
It depends on the insurer - mine didn't raise my premium when I changed to a full licence (in fact, at the time, they didn't ask, just specified that I drive with a valid licence and in accordance with it)
Some do raise the premium though.
As for NCB on a provisional - I think it's just as valid, but you might want to check with the insurer in question.0
