This was a very popular idea last year among bloggers.

My Coaster/beer mat calendar is pretty plain and unfussy, but if you Google "Coaster Calendars" you will be amazed by the ideas you will find and some tutorials.

Its just made with a beer mat , covered and embellished to your taste.

I've added a strip of magnetic tape to the back of mine to stick it on the fridge.

Anitas's (a craft brand) sell packs of calendar tabs for 99p -

Hiya I love everything you make and enjoy waking up every morning to check your blog (maybe I need to get a life):rotfl:

Anyhow a quick question, Im pretty new to crafting and to be honest not very good :o but I would love to try the coaster calendars, where would I get the beermats/coasters from.

Thanks in advance, Im off to write a list of things to make xx

Last year I bought clear baubles from B&Q but failed to get them used so this year I hope I find the time. http://tiffanyrobertandfamily.blogspot.com/2009/09/super-saturday-2009.html this is where I found the idea, scroll down for the 2 baubles. I will do some of the baby with Mary and Joseph and then some of each of my grandchildren, individual. I have also bought some ceramic stars, snowmen etc and will decorate them with porcelaine paints. I then will cut out some vinyl on my Cricut and put their names on the ceramic decorations. Similar to these http://www.thechiccountryhome.co.uk/Wooden%20Noel%20Decorations.htm and also like these
chr_trees_prod.jpgI also like this idea so may have a go if I have time 41nZYBwoR6L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

    Hi all,

This thread is fabulous - flyingpig, you're very clever and very generous to just share your ideas!

I was wondering if anyone could help me - I'd like to make a homemade advent calendar for my daughter. I'm under no illusions that it won't get finished until NEXT Christmas, but she's only 1 this year so would appreciate it more the following year anyway. I wanted to start making it with felt - the pockets especially - but I have NO idea on the cost of felt. What's a good price?? Can anyone advise?

(Oh and if anyone has any design ideas, that would be great too - I have a few ideas floating about already in my little head....)

    Many thanks in advance!

flyingpig -loving all these things you've done:T

mrssow -you could try the local pub for beer mats..........got mine from ours last year:)

    sethsgran -brilliant decorations:T

clare - can't help with the advent calendar I'm afraid. I picked one up from our charity shop the other year that was all little pockets but for the love of me can't remember what was on them.............lol:rotfl:
Think it may have been sprigs of holly in felt, snowmans face..........I know it was all fairly simply.

I'm struggling to know what to do with some mini-pegs I've got lurking about..........can't think of anything other than sticking them in the corner of an old place mat I'm going to cover and stick a shopping list on............maybe I could glue it on and pop some 'reminder' notes in it ?
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I just got back from visiting my daughter in America. Whilst there it was my birthday so I bought myself the cricut create as I feel that is big enough for my uses. I used both the create and expression whilst there to cut vinyl. dizzytina are you adjusting the pressure etc of the cutting blade, play around with the dials until you get the right pressure. PM me if you still find it difficult and I will try to help you out, ofcourse after 3 weeks I am expert at cricut!! LOL

  • Hi Mrsow

I got my beer mats from this online shop - who I can recommend - they cost £1.00 for 10. Not sure if they have a minimum order.

Hi Claire - you can get packes of felt from Poundland - think there are about 10 pieces of A4 size in assorted colours - they have it in Hobbycrafts but A4 costs 69p for just one piece.

But if you need a large piece they do sell it by the metre for about £9 a metre.
  • I have made a couple of advent calendars but I think they are too old for your little one

Two are based around mini chalk boards I got from e-bay last year - about £1.99 each. They are made by Gisela Graham - if there aren't any on e-bay.

I've done the writing "Days till Christmas" in a white chalk pen, stars are large plactic confetti from Birthdays.

Snowman embellishments are what I have found in odd shops.

Instructions on how to make this are on Itsallfiddlefart on 23rd August
