It's lovely to hear of the successes at the Christmas Fairs. I've got my first one next Friday. Fingers crossed the visitors are willing to part with their money!
Here's a few photos of my latest makes.
A few packs of magnetic note pegs:
Sock cupcakes:
These are a custom order (I still have 3 more to finish). The photo hasn't done them justice as it doesn't show the shiny gems/highlights etc too well.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
We had 2 small-scale fairs at preschool this week - space is very limited. I was really pleased to sell 4 Snowman Soups and over 12 candy cane novelties: mice, penguin, robin, snowman & reindeer. We made over £100 altogether with 50% going preschool funds and the other 50% going to support a project in Africa.0

Too late this year but I am considering that if I made things over the next year and took advantage of bargains and things on offer could I reasonably expect to make good profit next christmas? just wondering as I am a uni student and a bit of extra cash at christmas next year would be a godsend! Plus I love making things. I am considering buying a sewing machine too, would sock monkeys also sell well alongside this at a craft fair? Dont want to start crafting and end up out of pocket! How do I get started if I decide to have a go, how do you find out about when the fairs are on?No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2015/2016/2017/2018

Before you start buying too much work out what you want to (and can) make. Some resources you will be able to use for lots of different makes.
I sell my sock monkeys along side all my "makes"! For school xmas fairs I would speak to the school PTFA around OCT - NOV to find out if they are having a fair and if you can have a stall. Also check out local church halls/guildhalls/community centres. Find out where they are happening this year, pay them a visit and see what type of stall is there. You could then get contact details in preparation for next year.
The sewing machine I use to make my sock monkeys was a birthday pressie from my parents and was £20 from Original Factory Shop. It's a dinky little thing, and I realise it won't last forever but it does exactly what I need to do and is so easy to use. I've seen similar sewing machines in BHS too.
I'd probably make money if I didn't have a habit of buying new crafty things all the time!:rotfl:

I have just finished making humbug sweetie bags. I got a bit carried away and now everyone in my family has got an individual adapted version for Christmas!! I am a newbie so can not post links but I went to scrapbookscrapbook on the internet and downloaded tons of free backing papers including several different striped ones which I printed onto pearlescent paper and used for my bags. The best bit is that they were all free. Very MSE!!
Great news with the craft fairs. I am going to visit a few to get ideas as I'm thinking of doing one next Christmas. It should leave me plenty of time to get organised. Hopefully X0 -
I really fancy having a go at making a sock monkey but haven't plucked up courage yet. I think it's possible to hand-sew them, too; which method is best? I do have a machine but it's quite a hassle getting it set up for small projects due to lack of space.0

I hand sew all of my sock monkeys as I am not that good at sewing straight on a machine. I enjoy hand sewing also but I suppose it's personal choice. The E-mail of the species is more deadly than the mail.0 -
macpep1 - well done on your sales today.
kisto - lovely makes - your peg magnets are fab.
I did my craft fair today and sold lots of different bits and pieces. I took jewellery as well but only sold one button ring. I sold 2 sock monkeys and a sock girl which I was pleased about. Also sold quite a few toiletry gift sets that I took as well as several of the little things I had made for the fair. I made a good amount of money and in only 3 hours as well! The fair was really busy and well organised.
Just got my first sale on Folksy tonight also - yippee!!!!The E-mail of the species is more deadly than the mail.0 -
Thanks for that pointofnoreturn. I think I might prefer to hand sew.
Well done on today's fair - and what's Folksy? Excuse my ignorance but I'm quite new on here!0
