Evening Ladies, Well I've been away for 2 days and I've loads of catching up to do! Me and my sister went to see Mamma Mia, we really enjoyed!
Fantastic makes everyone, I can't believe how lovely and helpful everyone is! I've been busy making Snowmen soup, I don't have enough time to do craft fayres this year so I'm putting a little box of my makes in my works kitchen, fingers crossed!
Well I better get back to colouring in my pudsey bears for my son tomorrow, and I'm using my bestest pro markers!!! lol x0 -
I have actually managed to get some crafting done today, OH went away yesterday only for a week so can spread my things out a bit. Also had workmen in the house for the last two days upgrading our electrics. Which also means the dogs haven't left my side and have been uber protective.
Firstly I hope Dizzy doesn't mind me using her idea for the dog treats.
Our treats also look the same but I got mine in Cyprus I promise, it was a 900g bag for 2euros and I have made 9 x 100g bags.
I have another label design and would like to make some for cats but need to find some good treats or toys.
Also have a few bags of these made, these one have been covered with blue paper then I have used the sticky gift labels just trimming of the To and From.Mortgage

I would love to make the personalised baubles mentioned near the beginning of this thread but I am struggling to find any. I have tried the Hobby Craft website and my local Paperchase, as mentioned by the OP, but they don't seem to have them in stock this year. Has anyone found any elsewhere?
Thanks0 -
Hi All,
Im sure there have been lots of posts about ideas for using Candy Canes. Came across this in Blogland tonight so thought Id post just incase was of any interest to anyone. I think they look quite cute! Im sure you could even tie some brown felt round them instead of string if it was easier.
Here is the tutorial for the string option...

Found this too (although, cant say Im a fan of children eating chewing gum so maybe for older kids/adults.)

I bought mine from The Range as I only wanted 2 but they were 99p each so not very MSE. They are iridescent ones.0 -

I have put in approx 70g in mine and charge 65p per bag. So far apart from friends and family no one has bought a single bag <rollseyes>littlemissmoneypenny wrote: »I would love to make the personalised baubles mentioned near the beginning of this thread but I am struggling to find any. I can't help re glass baubles but one poster (sorry I've forgotten who) said Poundland is selling plastic ones with blue tinsle inside. This can be removed and voila a clear bauble

OK I am assuming you know what a memory stick is?
I "think" this is how you'd do it:
Open up web browser and click on Favourites.
Rather than click on Add to Favourites click on the arrow next to it and select Import and Export.
Select Export to a File
What would you like to export? Select Favourites
then when prompted selected the Favourites bar
Where do you want to export your Favourites to? Select Browse.
From here you can select the drive that your memory stick is plugged into.
I've not done this myself but I think this is how you do it.
Dizzytina - please don't panic about selling your items, they are fantastic and WILL sell
Went to toddler group today - made £5.65 :rotfl: Sold 2 Flannel Reindeer and 1 bag of Magic Food. Had lots of people looking, one person told me how lovely everything was but no one was buying. Have come to the conclusion I don't think these mums really appreciate hand crafted items - just the wrong demographic I thinkI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

kimbo_frog: I have the Elitech bag sealer, the same that flyingpig has; was a fluke that I got the same type. I watched a few on ebay and was lucky with the price and I wanted to pay. It has a metal heat wire across the length so you clamp your bag inbetween the two surfaces and it seals in seconds. I have used mine loads since getting it - and certainly makes me feel better that my stuff isn't going to go manky!
littlemissmoneypenny: I got my clear plastic baubles from Poundland. You get 4 per pack and thay have blue lametta (tinsel strands) inside. If you pop off the cap and use a set of tweezers to remove the blue lametta/tinsel; it does come out easily with a bit of fishing around. Et voila - 4 clear baubles! 4 for £1 in Poundland / 25p each and are plastic not glass so much safer too.
dizzytina: Fab makes! Where did you get your weeny kilner jars from (...that's if they are the mini ones?). Were they from B&M - I recall seeing similar ones in ours a few weeks back.0 -

I don't want people to take this the wrong way at all and hope I can explain myself properly but I think that when you just turn up 'off-the-cuff' people are so unprepared and not in the mode of buying things. I know personally I don't always have cash on me and certainly wouldn't be in the frame of mind of buying things when dropping kids off at school/nursery/toddler group or other such place unless it was advertised in advance & I was aware and could plan for it.
I really think this needs to be taken into account when people are actively seeking to sell their items. A lot of my sales have come from people only having seen my things on my Facebook and even then it was my boss who gave me my first order and this was based on the stuff I had made for family last year & the photos I posted up on Facebook! It went from there with her asking "what else do you do?" and me spouting a few things I knew I could put together and getting my orders in that way - so I am making on demand, rather than making to sell.
I have made a sample of each product and showcased them in work & online and my orders have come off the back of that.
I think it's definitely word of mouth and if you are going to target playgroups, etc, aim to have 2 'sittings' - the first one which you can use as a show-casing event where you show your products and have extras available if people do want to purchase on the spot and then the second sitting where people will have seen your products and will be ready & able to purchase, if they didn't already place an order at the first sitting
Hope this helps.0
