Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 2nd October 2010 . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning.
Hope you are all doing ok and feeling happy today ? Hugs to those that are not x

It was such a horrid day yesterday - the rain was horrendous. I kept my youngest son at home as he is recovering from a virus as he would have got soaked as the school is set on two sites with a ten minute walk in between.

OS - well the washing machine is whirring as I write and I have plans to do some baking with assistance. Im also going to the Garden Centre to get some potting compost so I can plant some more bulbs ready for spring. I bought my kids dad his christmas present yesterday - a Kindle Reader the same as Jackie O's - so please pass on any tips! He so deserves a special present as he looks after me so well and reading is his only hobby.

I would like to congratulate Hester - have just read your blog x

Sorry this is a short post but might update later if anything exciting happens (unlikely!)
Hugsx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Good Morning Molly & all to follow.

Yes the weather yesterday was terrible - just wanted to shut myself in my house but ended up having to go out and get soaked. Not raining here at the moment but everywhere is just sooo wet.

Was really looking forward to an hour extra in bed this morning but guess what - woke up early than normal and couldn't get back to sleep. Am sitting here with another cup of tea to try and get going - will try coffee in a mo :rotfl:

Had quite a stressfull day yesterday with the course and work - house is looking a little sorry for itself and the laundry pile is massive so will be given myself a kick up the bum in a minute and start attacking it. Have to go out this morning to drop off a lorry with OH and as its by Lakeside will be able to get DS' friends birthday pressie that he needs for this afternoon.

So plan is - get some washing out, once home attack the housework and start ironing. DS is out at a sleepover later so should be easy to get on with. Having Chilli for tea and making double for the freezer. Have a big tesco shop coming monday so will meal plan today or tomorrow.

Hope you are all well & (((hugs))) wherever needed.
Off now to check out Hesters blog - have a great Saturday.x

Oooh yes - congratulations Hester :j:beer::T
  • Morning everyone, no rain here either, fingers crossed. Been up about an hour with my grandaughter and my 4yr old DS.She's blowing kisses at me at the mo, bound to be a cover up for some mischief she's about to get into!
My lovely mother is coming this morning, my sis this afternoon. Must make some jewellery today/tonight as I've had an order for 3 bracelet & necklace sets and every penny helps.
Had my new all in one printer arrive last night. What a godsend that will be. I've already printed out a 4 week meal plan with the food I've hoarded and sure I could stretch it a lot further. Not sure the kids will be impressed with the menu but as I always tell them "stop being picky & think of all the people that have to go without"
Hope you are all well and have a great Saturday x:)

:rotfl:Morning molly41 and essex girl and all who follow,Its not raining at the moment but the sky is red, so red sky in the morning ect ...
molly41 I have downloaded 18 books so far onto my Kindle and its easy to do, plus they were all 'freebies' You can also alter the size of the font if you want the words a bit bigger. My DGS Danny is off to New York tomorrow for a week with his girlfriend Chloe and is going to see how much the Kindle lighted cover is.Over here its almost £50.00, it maybe a bit cheaper in the U.S. as things often are.
I am hoping for a NSD weekend as at the moment I have no shopping to buy,but I think eldest DD is poping by this afternoon and she may want to go shopping .I might just take a fiver with me just in case.
My arm is really great now and far more mobile now it has less fluid in it .I saw my therapist yesterday morning and he worked out the measurements and figures from when he started three weeks ago until when he finished this week and my arm has reduced by 30% and I have lost two litres of fluid from it .A great amount, and it will keep reducing all the time I am wearing my sleeve and glove. He is hoping by Christmas it will be of equal size to my left arm, then I can have just a thin pop-sox type sleeve to wear instead of the one I have at the moment. It's nice to be able to type with two hands as well.
I hope everyone has a good day today, I am reading a Stuart Macbride book at the moment having just discovered him and its really good.Right I'm off to have a shower (without the black bag on my arm ):rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j:j:j
Take care all and have a good week-end

    Morning :hello:

    Hester woohoo.gif:D

Work rang yesterday, for my lunch order. The first three days are very long, so they're paying for everyone's food :D The shop is closed now until wednesday. Mr tru worked til 10pm last night, got home at gone 11. Others were moaning that him and a couple of others have today off, he told them if they'd stayed past 5.30pm (closing time) and finished their work, then they could've had today off too.

I'm sick sick sick of looking at cards, so I've packed everything away (except the finished ones, they're in a box ready to be sold) and we're going to enjoy the next few days off.

OS-wise today - not much! Just need to clean the chickens out.
Might make a shepherd's pie later.

It peed down yesterday, the washing is still on the line, dripping. So that'll need another spin.

Morning all - what a beautiful day it appears to be today (from the view out of the window anyway!) after all the rain of yesterday. Took OH to a careers fair yesterday as his job finishes in April - it was in London and I'm very pleased we don't live there!

Today will be full of taking children to the doctors (DS has developed conjunctivitus in the 24hrs I was away!), clearing out the garage and catching up with housework, washing and the like. Also like the idea of doing a proper menu plan, printed out so everyone can see. So will check the contents of freezer and cupboards first.

    Have a great day :)
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning everyone :j

Rain has been replaced with sunshine and it's a lovely light - it's being streamed through a glorious sycamore tree which is turning reddy brown on it's way to winter hibernation. At the back there is a rowan tree which goes the most wonderful blazing red colour.

Off and at them this morning, just going out to town to sort a few things and then back home to do some sorting out here too. Have been scanning work papers and shredding them - too many piles of paper which get lost between the office and home.

Lots of OS here too. Nothing to be bought, plenty to be eaten, washing machine just finished and Time Team to be watched (will record first couple of episodes).

Good thoughts and karma to all.

    Morning all,

Congrats to Hester and the Minder :j:j, saw it on FB xx

Not raining here :j, dd came home from school yesterday with dripping wet feet, she had her canvas type shoes on, I did not even think of it when she left in the morning, will have to see if she has any non canvas ones suitable, otherwise I will send her dad out to get some today :D anyhoo I have washed them and they are on the line, along with a load I did last night, 1 more in the wm and 2 to follow, so machine will be busy.

OH gone to the boot sale, and just me up at the moment, big pot of tea on the go, and will go and make some toast after this.

Need to have a good tidy through this morning, OH can hoover, dd can do her room. Dinner tonight will be pea and ham soup, I kept the liquid I cooked my gammon in last week which has gone all jelly like, and have some odd ham bits left, I also have 1/2 bag of frozen peas which were horrible, like bullets so will shove them in too, should be a nice warming soup, will make enough for my lunches next week. There is a portion of hm tomato in the freezer which dd can have.

I want to get our bedroom changed round today, our bed is parallel to an old fire place, which is still open, anyway OH keeps waking up with a bad back and me with a stiff neck, I am sure its the draft from the chimney, so we are goint to swap the huge wardrobes and bed around and see if that helps.

Camelot hope you are ok this morning, think of the good times she will be having xx

    Have good days all xxx

    OK. Nose satisfied. :D

    Good Morning.

Bright and cold up here, I've been awake since 2am with toothache.:( The dentist warned it might trouble me, so I think I'll be knocking her door down on Monday morning.
DS1 still asleep and not very well, I won't be letting him go to his youth group thing today, he can stay home and heal. DS2 and OH are away to footie.

I was up and out early this morning, went to Morries for it opening to get a few bits and pieces for MIL and took them round as she's having a really bad RA flare up, we haven't been able to go near either because of all the cold, as she has lung problems and compromised immunity, so I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks. Aslo delivered DS1's birthday present, from her, which I bought last week - a mobile phone - he's a very lucky boy to have such a generous gran, but he totally appreciates her, she says she's never seen anyone accept a gift the way he does. :D I wasn't sure about a phone at this age, in fact I have been telling him for a few years he'll need to wait until he's 13, but now he's having that bit more freedom, I feel its better for him to have it for safety, and so I can keep an eye on him. Oops that wasn't OS at all, was it? :o

Plan for the day is to get the house spick and span and to maek DS1's birthday cake. Chocolate of course, I have created a family of chocoholics! I also need to make some sausage rolls and either cookies or rocky road for tomorrow. I think cookies as I can't be bothered making marshmallows today on top of everything else:o

Hugs for Camelot, I went on a big adventure at 19, it was the best thing I ever did, although I only went as far as Europe, it will be the making of her I'm sure, and as redruby said, you must be really proud of her!

D&DD where are the pics of the pup?;) Topsy, was it you who got a dog too?

Can you tell I am feeling a bit chirpier this morning :)

LAstly congrats to Hester :D

Have a good day all, hugs if any are required all round!

    Morning all

    Congratulations Hester!! :j

Camelot - hope you are okay this morning. I am one of those children too, though I got the travelling bug in my early 20s rather than at 18! Wish I had the confidence to go at 18! The sheer fact that your DD is able to go off and spread her wings in such a fashion is a sheer testament to the love and support you (and your family) have given her growing up. She will have a ball, although, just to warn you, if she proper gets the travelling bug she might be off again soon after her return! :rotfl:

Well I had a lovely night with the girls last night, even if they did turn up 50 mins late with no apology or explanation  One of my friends is always late but normally like 20mins so I was getting worried (and annoyed!). Strictly was fab :D very impressed with the ex Blue Peter man. We had a good catch up and set the world to rights!

It's a beautiful morning here, very windy but sunny. WM has been on and laundry is on balcony getting a blowing. Dw will go on overnight too, and WM will need to go on again tomorrow as I seem to have lots of washing this week! Other than that not much OS here. Flat is tidy after last night, just need to wipe the worktop over.

Not sure on plans today. May go into town for lunch with friends, but we are going tomorrow as well so I'll wait to see if I hear from them. I may go looking for curtains for the bedroom.

    Have a great day all
