I had it constantly for 2 years after my daughter was born, as the ladies above who said changing pill helped, it was caused by a hormonal imbalance, so that might be worth looking into. What contraception do you use?

The only thing that helped me was homeopathy. I used to carry a phial everywhere with me and took the pills the minute the slightest tingle started

  • Garlic! and I don't mean eating it, I mean inserting it!
I know it sounds crazy, but I have a friend who has terrible recurrent yeast infections, and she swears by it. Inserting a carefully peeled clove of garlic before bed and removing it in the morning (or after a few hours at least) works far more effectively for her than anything the doctor has been able to suggest.

Peeled garlic clove inserted into the vagina works as garlic is a natural anti fungal.

Stop eating any sugar, yeast and dairy for a month.

I am plagued by this too.

I went to a GUM clinic once and got swabbed for everything, just to be sure, and all that came back was thrush!! The doc I saw there said because of my profession, (midwife) I was obsessed with my vagina!!!

When I went back for the results he was a little more helpful, and gave me cream, not caneston, which did help but only for a while.

My partner does get symptoms, he uses caneston cream if he gets it. It does seem to be me that gives it to him and it can all get a bit miserable to be honest.

Just about anything seems to trigger it of for me, sex, tight jeans, my period, if I'm under the weather.

I have tried live yoghurt on tampons...not much good. Douching with water laced with tea tree oil...not bad at damping down an attack, but I still get it again. I did try a live bacteria capsule, the sort with pro biotics, (inserted not eaten, though I have eaten them too!) but it was not much help.

I have yet to try the garlic, cos I used a bit of mashed garlic on a verruca once and although it worked it had a burning sensation and my foot bled quite a bit, so don't fancy that much.

I must explain that I have tried all these things over years, not experimenting every other day. I tend to try something when I get desperate.

I have been taking medication to stop my periods because of heavy bleeding (another story) and the thrush seems to have abated a bit so I'm guessing for me it's mostly hormonal.

Although last time I got it I bought pesseries that you used every night for three nights in a row and 2% canesten cream, so that might just have done the trick.

im sure a man can carry it and not be aware, but if you actually get it you will know about it, and you dont even get to keep the doubling in size after your cured :(

I had recurrent thrush after I had DD, but as soon as I went and got my episiotomy scar repaired it disappeared.

I am convinced to this day the bacteria were living it up in the little pocket left by a bad stitch-up in the first place.;)

I'm well aware this is probably putting some folks off their dinner right now, but since I posted a reply about having the scar done this morning I might aswell let you know the rest now!:o:rotfl:

It was nasty having it every few weeks, never had it before, and never had it since the repair op.

Good Luck, hope it's something as simple as mine that fixes you.;)

Cotton undies, no tights, no tight jeans, consider changing your Pill or coming off it altogether if you're on it, the live yoghurt is very soothing (if a bit messy). However, candida is a yeast which lives on sugar and it can colonise your whole body and your doctor should really be working with you to get rid of it. because you can't go on like this. Go back to your doc and if he won't help, ask for a referral.

A friend of mine had been suffering from dreadful bouts of stomach pains which required hospitalization and morphine. The Drs could find no reason for the episodes even after scans etc, so she paid to have some sort of 'intolerence tests' done and was told she had a large Candida count in her body. She changed her diet and has not had an attack since.
Strangely enough though she had never had vaginal thrush.
