sold a few items last week and got the postage wrong (as for less than what it cost) but have also bought some stuff and have been over charged by nearly £3.50. Now I know I agree to the p&p before I bid but £3.50 is a lot to over charge.
what I have lost on p&p os pennies but if I had over charged would and have refunded some money.
what I would like to know is..... If your over charged by £'s in postage would you ask for a refund???

The £3.50 will be postage and packaging, so won't just be what price it says on the sticker. It will include packaging materials, time/cost to get to post office etc. Plus people often charge higher postage as P&P doesn't incur fees which the sold price does.
I've never queried the postage as at the end of the day that is what I have agreed to when buying the item. I always factor in cost of P&P when deciding on how much to bid."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
Depends how much it was. Usually, no as I've agreed to it. However, if someone charged me £5.00 and I believed it would cost that much, but on receiving the item realised they only paid £0.51, then I'd ask.
I'm sure you do this already, but remember to take into account what they likely spent on packaging as well.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
total P&P paid was £7.50, item was wrapped in a black sack and selotape. postage on parcel was £4.41... bit of a difference. and iv not asked for any money back, and prob wont. but will let the seller know I feel over charged and will fill in the ebay stars as I see fit....
just wanted to know what everyone else would do if they were in this situation.....Life is like a box of chocolates........

I allow for a reasonable packing amount and if they've still overcharged me I email them and let them know in a polite manner that I feel I've been overcharged.
Most of the time the seller will refund me the difference and I'll leave them nice feedback.
If they don't I'll email once again then I'll have to consider my feedback/dsrs.
I know people come back with "You agreed to the postage" but actually, I agree to it if it costs that much. P&P should be the cost of the stamp and the posting materials. Your time to stroll to the Post Office is not included in that, neither is the sandwich you bought on the way home. Now 20p over is fine, it's 20p, buy yourself 2 Chomps. £2 however (as I was overcharged the other day) is a joke. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. P&p is to pay for the postage & packaging, none of the above should be factored into it. You put the extras on your starting price.
Unless a seller tells you how much an item weighs or you have an identical item at home, you won't know how much the seller actually postage until it arrives, or how much may be spent on packaging.
£3.+ on top of postage costs is far too much, I would definitely contact the seller & say that I feel surprised to have paid that much over the top, if they don't offer a partial refund I would be hitting the stars & mentioning in the feedback as well.0 -
ok so have emailed the seller and respectfuly asked for a partial refund of some of the p&p costs.... will wait n see...Life is like a box of chocolates........

I'm also one that would mention a large overcharge to a seller, give them a chance to say 'oops, I got it wrong' (as I'm sure we all have). If however they say anything like 'tough luck' or start with long involved explanations as to how you have to take into account 3 bus fares, an ice cream and shoe leather in the p and p charge I just hit their p and p stars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I sell on Ebay as well as having a site shop. On Ebay I always state what the post and packing costs include. In my case I always buy new packaging, and I live in such a remote area with no personal or public transport excepting a taxi service so must take that into account too...miles from the post office. But, I do try and keep it reasonable and do not charge over what it actually costs me to buy the packing and go to and back from the post office, plus the postage itself of course. In the small print at the bottom of each ad on Ebay, I always explain this too. The end cost is never outrageous and I wouldn`t slap on extra just to make myself some money that way!"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0

Ouch, telling me why your postage is exensive, on your listing is a red rag to a bull for me. As a buyer I don't care where you live or what car you do or do not drive, all I care about is whether the post and packing looks about right for the item I received-the stamp cost and the packaging. Frankly if you have to explain your pricing then it is way too high.
If I'm paying for your time, your remote property etc you'll just get it in the stars. Post and packing is just that, it isn't anything else and stars are now, unfortunately, th emost important thing to a business seller on ebay. Two low stars, or a series of average ones and you lose any seller discounts. Drop to even average and your best match disappears.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm currently annoyed over a sellers supposed combined p&p that i've just bought from. Emailed before hand to ask if they combined. Postage on the 2 items listed was £2.00 each, they gave me a measly discount of 50p! These are small items and will cost no more to post together at all. They'll have saved 30odd p on the pp fees as it is! My gripe is i know darn well (already have some of these items) that they will come in at £1.51 (they are posting 2nd class) and they don't need anything other than a bag for posting.
So £3.50 for £1.51 is overcharging in my book and same with the ops post. Really winds me up as for small items i mostly don't charge any extra and if i do it's 30p or so!0
