    I believe your main problem was you had 2 avs installed (Avira and MSE)

    As avira has been uninstalled, how is it now?

    yep I've uninstalled Avira - and am running on IE but it is still very slow.

    All the time as in years?

    Thats definitely pointing to not enough RAM. Follow Donnies advice to determine what you have (Im guessing 0.5Gb which is far to low for Vista)

    MSE is Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsofts free anti virus)
