  • If it is going to be useful or of value to you, take it with you or offer to sell it to the buyer - eg curtains, curtain poles, light fittings. If it is going to be of no use to you, offer to leave it behind - eg conservatory blinds.

  • Hi, new to this forum, but a regular reader!

Interested in this thread re fittings. It isn't always obvious to me exactly what buyers will expect to have included in the sale. We're definitely taking the curtains, but every window has a blind as well, which we'll leave. We also plan to take our fridge & freezer with us, but are leaving cooker & dishwasher.

Also, we are taking the wardrobes from my son's room, as they were hand-made by my carpenter husband & I'm hoping it will help my little boy feel more at home in his new bedroom.

HOWEVER, if the buyer disputes any of this, then we will almost certainly (but reluctantly!) just leave them & include them in the sale price.

It was hard enough to find a buyer in the first place, without alienating them over fittings etc! I just want everything to go as smoothly as possible......

see tight people still exist...my seller took the doorbell and sky dish..try and beat that..

Well lets see my sellers took the toilet roll holder, towel rail, door bell, curtain poles, fitted blinds in the conservatory and stair rods (leaving holes in the carpet).
  • When we bought our house, the sellers tried to sell us their (very old) cooker and freezer, and their new (but not our taste) carpets for £1000. We didn't have anywhere near that much money available, and we had our own cooker and freezer so didn't need them, so we said we would give them £200 for the carpets - they refused and took them with them. I thought this was fairly petty unless they actually would fit into their new place which seemed a little unlikely as the house had fairly unusual sized rooms, but there you go! When we move, we'll be leaving the carpets. The house that we are currently buying, the vendors have said that they'll leave the carpets and curtain poles.

  • Hello,
Personally, I wouldn't think of these things as a revenue stream. By all means put a price on them, but you are simply asking the purchaser "are these things useful to you, if so would you be prepared to pay x". They could say no thanks. Also if the road to completion ends up being bumpy (i hope not!), they may resent the extra few hundred £ in the end. Maybe your favourite internet auction site is an option?

I would be happy to have a proceedable offer on my house and let them have the blinds and the shed for free.

I agree with this. I would expect anything you aren't taking with you to be included in the sale to be honest. I've not heard of anyone agreeing a price and then charging extra for certain items. There's a reasonably high chance they'll redecorate and get rid of the blinds altogether... What is to your taste might not be to theirs...

We're very generously getting left a set of weather beaten, grotty to the point of being grey, "white" plastic garden furniture. Please - take it with you (those wobbly white chairs are one of my pet hates)!

I forsee it hitting Freecycle about 10 minutes after we get the keys.

OK - what's the most random fixture/fitting someone's left you? In the place we're buying - we have a mirror on hinges in the kitchen being left. It's like nothing you've ever seen before - it's hinged, and hung to the other side of the kitchen door from the door hinges, assumedly so you can watch TV while cooking in some kind of bizarre periscope arrangement. If we get back in to measure up, check out a couple of things I'll have to take a photo to show people because my mother in law was almost wetting herself laughing at it.

It also has 100watt eco-unfriendly lightbulbs... I was considering trying to flog those endangered species on Ebay to be honest :D

The vendor of my last house left the toilet brushes. That was fairly random and not at all appreciated.
