Charging for house 'fittings' with sale

If I was the buyer I would be thinking £100 maximum for the blinds.
If I was the buyer I'd be thinking
"Why the **** didn't the seller think about this before putting their house on the market, and include an initial list of what's included and not in the sales brochure?"
Something like;
"All carpets (excluding loose rugs), curtains and blinds are included in the sale, as are the freestanding appliances in the kitchen (cooker, fridge). The garden shed is also included."0 -
it's totally wind me up. I'd throw in a hundred quid for all blinds and curtains for modesty sake, and tell you to take the rest with you.
House moving is stressful enough, let it go. If you didn't like the offer price you shouldn't have taken it, and trying to bump it up with the sale of years old stuff that you probably won't use in your new place anyway, is a bit grimey to me.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
I've just put our house on the market and we have two sheds (one reasonably large) both in good condition (re-roofed and painted in the spring) and we had to consider whether to ask for additional money for them. I came to the conclusion that there was no point: what would I do with them if the buyer refused to pay any extra for them? For the sake of a couple of hundred pounds it just isn't worthwhile to annoy your buyer.0

Are your blinds the kind that fit in the window (I think they're called pleated??). If so what will you do with them if the vendors don't want them? Again, are you prepared to take the shed if the vendors don't want it?
If they are pleated blinds then I know they're expensive as we paid over £2k for ours, but if I were to sell I would never think of removing them as to me they come with the conservatory.
Conversely as one of our sheds is huge and oh keeps loads of tools in it, we would take it with us, but I would point that out when buyers came to look around.

PS Am I the only one who thinks that taking curtains, lightfittings etc with you is petty? After all what's the chances of them fitting/looking good in the new house?0 -

I'm taking me curtains and front room light fitting but I really like them. I couldn't buy the same fitting now so I have said i will take it down but replace it with something of a similar style and standard. My curtains are off the shelf and will easily fit the new place however the blinds are fitted so will stay.
One EA actually asked if the cast iron mantle and gas fire would stay....:silenced:0 -

My sheds going with me, specificaly said it wasnt for sale on the property schedule. It cost me a lot of money a few years back and I have room for it at my new house.
If it was the tipping point on a sale it would have stayed but at 700 quid to replace its worth taking.0 -
I think taking stuff like this is petty and a bit mean. I have always left curtains etc. Unfortunately, the guy who sold me my last house was extremely tight and tried to get us to pay about £2k for some horrible cheap curtains (3 bed house). He then left half the curtains anyway, but mostly ones at the back to we had to cover the front windows with paper for the first few days.0

I'm with those who think this sort of thing should just be left at the house as part of the deal - that's what we're doing, as are our vendors, and this seems to be the norm now (when we last bought and sold in the 80s, it was much more usual to remove or charge for curtains etc).
As others have said, beware alienating your purchasers: they are pretty thin on the ground, and likely to get thinner.0 -
We have just received and accepted an offer on our house, 10% less than asking price, but that's how it goes.
Unsure what to ask for fittings though.
ie. conservatory blinds cost £995 in very good condition 5 yrs old, is £400 too much to ask?
Garden shed exc cond, £50
We are leaving other light fittings, venitian blinds, bathroom fittings as free.
What do you think?0 -
Thanks for all the replys, no not a joke, but a serious question as to what you ask for fittings if anything.
I'm lucky, the buyers today came to measure up and offered £250 all in which we accepted. How much ?????????!!!0
