If you have a phone that can download Apps (iPhone), you could download a free / cheap TV Remote App and see if that will work. of course ask it to make a cup of tea whilst your at it ,

cant you just accept that your not to use the hdmi ports etc for a reason? jesus i suppose youve been hacking the radiator aswell have you trying to get a few more degree's out of it..........

when i stayed in a travel lodge my mate brough a hdmi player and i think it was the same tv, i just kept pressing the channel up button constantly on top of the tv and it brought it up eventually

Nooo! It means some idiots will read your instructions, mess up the channels looking for *cough* special films and spoil it for the next few guests seeing as it'll take TL ages to get an engineer in to fix it.

"Special" films viewable via a TravelLodge tv - that's a new one on me. Most hotel tvs restrict which channels you can watch for free but there is usually a range of satellite channels unless there is no local signal.

Travelodge pipe a limited amount of Freeview channels through RF, so you get a poor selection, sometimes a poor picture and glorious mono sound.

Whats wrong with wanting to plug something into a port that already exists? It's not like he wants to open up the TV & wire his device to the mobo.

I suppose if the put match sticks in the live socket & you could not plug anything in you'd think that was alright as well?

    Hi
Ever thought of reading something? A good book, take a Kindle with you on your jaunts? If the place had WiFi, you could download a book.

Just a thought, I can't help thinking that everyone today HAS to have a TV and/or DVD to watch. Maybe buy an E- book Reader for your next outing/holiday. Reading is good for the imagination and, hey, you are not trapped there for more than a day, right?

Take a look back at all the advice, some of it complicated, just to fend off boredom. seems a bit OTT to me.

I've managed to get round it though after a while trying so I thought I'd post the solution in case anyone else ends up like the OP.

    Instructions :

Press and hold MENU on the remote control and also MENU on the TV as well for about 10 seconds and a hidden menu will appear.

Press MENU again on the remote control and a second hidden menu will appear.

Choose the option "LG HOTEL SETUP" and press OK on the remote.

You can then change various options. I changed the following all to "YES",
    INPUT SOURCE
    SETUP MENU DISPLAY
    MENU DISPLAY
    AV SETTINGS

Once you've changed these options, press OK twice and now try the INPUT button. You should be greeted with the normal input menu and you can select whatever you want (e.g. HDMI 1).

Probably a good idea to switch the options back before you leave.

    Hope this helps someone.

Heroic stuff, Peter999: well done! :T

Thanks for posting it. I’ve stored it and printed out a copy to keep in my travel bag. :money:

I have to say, though, that at the last three TraveLodges I’ve stayed in, there were no television remote contols in my room, and none available from reception :( . So your solution would still have been denied to me. :wall:

(Two of them were missing a light bulb as well  – so Robisere's suggestion was not on, either – but at least with that, my requests met with more success.)

I think I may persuade Santa Claus to buy me an LG television remote control on eBay and keep that in my bag, too... :xmassmile

Have you considered a new career as an MSE forum administrator? You would appear to have exactly the right mentality (and mastery of grammar). :grouphug:

I don't understand the logic there. Why should a TV screen that can display complex colour images and sound be better or in any way preferable to a monochrome screen that only displays text?

If "everyone today HAS to have a TV and/or DVD to watch", then is that not an indication of how justifiably desirable such devices are?

Downloading an app or using a TV remote control is hardly complicated... Maybe I can see why you prefer eBooks :p

I had similar with a Philips TV on holiday abroad this year. Had my laptop and a portable DVD player with us that I wanted to hook up.

So all I did was google the model number and downloaded the instruction manual. It gave all the instructions to retune and enable the AV inputs.

I also took a wireless router with me, as we had wired Internet in the room, but not WiFi. It was not difficult to 'sniff' the ip address range, and assign a static address to the router in the range. Gave me free wifi for the duration of my stay !
