If you have a phone that can download Apps (iPhone), you could download a free / cheap TV Remote App and see if that will work.

Hotels tend to use special models of TVs, and there's various ways that they are locked. Usually you need a special 'master' remote than can unlock them, although certain software may be able to emulate that. Google the model of the TV and 'hotel unlock' or something like that, and you might find something useful.

Are there any buttons on the TV itself that allow you to tune an existing channel to the console or DVD player?

If you plug in the console/DVD to the TV and turn it on, some TVs will automatically detect the new input and switch channel automatically...
We booked this travelodge a while ago and was told that we could plug a dvd player or ps3 in. This therefore passes today, as we will be back on the road again tomorrow.

In that case, the ability to use your PS3 and DVD player forms part of the contract you have with the hotel. Find the manager and explain that you will not be paying for your room unless they honour their part of the contract. If necessary you could try asking your credit card company to withold payment while you try to resolve the issue with the hotel.

I wish i could, we paid upfront. The lady on reception is not being helpful saying that she knows nothing about it or about a master remote.

She is also sayin there is no manager, and there is no customer services number to ring either.

I have tried all of the above, other than the iphone as we dont have one and nothing seems to be working.

Looks like a long night of boring TV for us then

    Thank you everyone.

I really hate it when companies fail to keep their part of the bargain and think they can do whatever they like just because they've taken your money. Personally, I would send them an invoice by recorded delivery (for the full amount paid, saying that they are in breach of contract), then a "final letter before action" threatening to sue if they don't refund.

I wouldn't go ahead with legal action (what good is a verbal contract, after all?), and would just write off the money, but you never know. They might see sense or offer you something as a goodwill gesture. At the very least it will hightlight the fact that they shouldn't make promises they can't keep, and also that residents might want to use their own AV devices in their rooms.

On the bright side... you could have "fun" writing the letter of complaint and the invoice to while away the hours trapped in the hotel with no other form of entertainment... :rotfl:... Yeah... or just find a good pub with some fine ales!

    Travelodge Customer Services: 08719 84 84 84. Maybe worth a go...

EDIT: Or try 01844 358500, which is probably cheaper from a mobile, and should connect you to the same department according to saynoto0870.co.uk.

This IS Travelodge we are talking about..

Be a bit like trying to get Ryanair to treat people like human beings.

OP, I honestly wouldn't waste anymore time trying to either tune the TV to anything other than the standard TL dross, or even thinking they give a monkeys.

    Hi guys,

I am currently in a travelodge room with my wife and daughter for one night. Brought my WD TV to watch videos - guess what?, yep, locked down LG TV with no access to the HDMI inputs.

I've managed to get round it though after a while trying so I thought I'd post the solution in case anyone else ends up like the OP.

    Instructions :

Press and hold MENU on the remote control and also MENU on the TV as well for about 10 seconds and a hidden menu will appear.

Press MENU again on the remote control and a second hidden menu will appear.

Choose the option "LG HOTEL SETUP" and press OK on the remote.

You can then change various options. I changed the following all to "YES",
    INPUT SOURCE
    SETUP MENU DISPLAY
    MENU DISPLAY
    AV SETTINGS

Once you've changed these options, press OK twice and now try the INPUT button. You should be greeted with the normal input menu and you can select whatever you want (e.g. HDMI 1).

Probably a good idea to switch the options back before you leave.

    Hope this helps someone.

No way! I, for one, live by two mottos "If it ain't broke, tweak it." and "Never allow yourself to be defeated by a machine." Okay, okay; there's a third one: "It was like that when I found it." But don't worry about that - the technology is just sitting there, waiting to be used!

    Cheers for the tip, Peter999.
