Thank you for alerting me to this. Where do you find out about the £30 cancellation fee? I looked at the t&c and it says in No 20 that there may be a cancellation fee, but does not specify the amount.
You have to click on their 'additional information' link
"E.ON SaveOnline 3 additional information
* Saving based on a customer currently taking E.ON Standard unrestricted electricity and gas and paying monthly by fixed Direct Debit, switching both fuels to our E.ON SaveOnline 3 product, managing their account online, paying by Fixed Monthly Direct Debit with average annual electricity consumption of 3,300kWh and average annual gas consumption of 20,500kWh. Saving is averaged nationally and may vary by consumption, area and meter type. E.ON SaveOnline 3 product is not available for customers with prepayment or restricted hours meters. Comparison uses E.ON standard prices as of 19 August 2010. A contract cancellation fee of £30 may apply if you leave before 1 November 2011."0 -
I've received a letter this morning (1st October) from Eon telling me my Save Online tariff ends TODAY! This was a complete surprise and I don't seem to be alone according to the SaveOnline v2 - v3 thread.
More annoying as I'd looked into changing tariffs just recently but decided to stay put as this one offered tesco points and an 9.60% online discount. I even got my annual gas and electric consumption details (from Brian on here) and checked out Eon's current tariffs but nowhere on my account did I see mention of my current tariff ending shortly. (I will be looking at my paperwork later but surely if you have an online account these details should be clearly stated online?).
I've had a quick look at the options now available at Eon but their site is VERY SLOW today and I find it difficult working out which one is best for me.
Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
Hi ih8stress
I'm really sorry about the late arrival of the letter advising of the end of our Saveonline 1 tariff.
As you say, there is a lot of discussion on another thread and I posted quite a bit of info yesterday about this. Please see the following link.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2682901
This was our mistake and the letter should have been with you much earlier than it was.
The Saveonline 1 end date will have been advised on the paperwork sent to you confirming your switch to this product. It is also included on the website if you select More Info on the Prices & Discounts page.
Again, I'm sorry our mistake has caused you such inconvenience and for the delays on our website over the weekend.

Just been looking at V3 which seems to be about my only option if I stay with Eon.
I'd obviously be losing the 9.60% online discount and tesco points. There is also a £30 cancellation fee if you opt out before November 2011.
Is any Eon Rep (Brian or Malc) online to say what happens if I go to V3 and a better plan is revealed soon? Would I be able to swop without paying the £30 - seen as I, and others - are being unfairly pushed into making a quick decision to avoid being put on the standard plan?
Hi ih8stress
Saveonline 3 is structured differently to Saveonline 1 and 2. Instead of showing the discount for managing your account online as a separate percentage figure, it is included in the unit prices. As a result, these prices are lower than our standard rates.
There is also extra discount for paying with a Direct Debit. This is shown as a separate percentage figure as before.
I can confirm, Tesco points are not available with Saveonline 3 and a cancellation charge may be applied if the terms of the contract are broken before the tariff end date.
As I say, the cancellation fee may be applied. As Pincher says, this is discretionary and will depend on the circumstances at the time.
Given our mistake with the late delivery of the letters mentioned above, you should certainly have a case for having this fee waived if you decide to switch to another tariff.
Hope this answers these questions ih8stress. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Yes you do lose your discounts on final bills, which is why people on here suggest making sure final bills have shorter days worth of charges.
Just a quick heads up on this ih8stress.
Whilst it is quite correct that generally discount is not given on final bills when changing supplier, this is not always the case.
The exception is where the full term of a contract has been completed. In these instances, all the discount applicable to the completed tariff is given even if part of this falls within the final bill.
For instance, if you decided to switch supplier now, you will receive all the discount applicable to Saveonline 1 even if the final bill includes the period up to 1 October.
Hope this clarifies this exception ih8stress. As always, give me a shout if this isn't clear or you need any more info.

Something is not right at E-on. Despite their own T&Cs stating that the account is to be managed on line there is no mention of this change on line. The letter they have sent me is inaccurate and late. How can they justify telling online customers that their tariff has changed as from now by snail mail?
I wait to hear the excuses.

I agree kelou; this isn't good enough.
Please accept my apologies for the delays and inconvenience caused.
Hope my reply to your post on another thread (see below) and my replies on this thread have answered your queries.

I have the full terms and conditions in front of me - the relevant section says they will inform us in advance if they want to stop the plan.
"We may remove your E.ON SaveOnline discount following the date set out in your plan. The way we do this is to switch you to our E.ON EnergyOnline plan or one of our standard plans. We will contact you in advance to notify you of your new contract Terms and Conditions and prices."
IN ADVANCE! They failed to do this. On my letter from eon which confirmed I had been accepted on SavonlineV1 in Sept 2009, they said it had an extra 9.3% discount until at least 1 October 2010.
What is sneaky is the way they deliberately put you on an inferior plan to make more money.
I shall certainly consider moving as soon as my next bill comes in to prevent losing too many days discount. I shall write to them to indicate my dissatisfaction. The website shows i am still on Online save V1 on Saturday oct 2nd at midday.
I have also taken meter readings to make sure they don't diddle me.
Hi pengers
I replied to a similar post on another thread yesterday (post 38). Please see the link I posted in reply to ffym above.
Thought I would just outline what should happen when contracts end.
Once a product finishes, we need to put customers on to a replacement tariff to cover their ongoing usage.
As you already have an online tariff, unless you contact us, your account will automatically be placed on the standard online product after the current contract end date.
Our basic online product has no tie-ins, cancellation fees or restrictions leaving you free to change tariff/supplier at any time. Consequently, the discount is less than some of our other tariffs.
Automatically putting customers on to a tariff with restrictions would not be acceptable to most people.
Letters are sent out advising customers their current deal is ending and giving them to time to look for a suitable replacement, either with us or another supplier. This is where we fell down last week.
Taking meter readings when a product ends is an excellent idea. Let us have those and we can make sure the billing is accurate up to the tariff end date.
Again, I'm really sorry our mistake has caused so much inconvenience but hope I've explained what happened in this instance.

I too have received a letter the day before my plan came to end dated Sept 2010.
My apologies to you also Arsesix.
I hope my earlier posts have explained this was a mistake on our part and not usual procedure.
Give me a shout if you have any further queries as will be happy to help.

Just managed to get on the Eon website and switch from V1 to V3 before they put me on the standard plan. Painfully slow as it was taking about 10 minutes for each web page to load.
Really sh1te service from Eon. I'm also hacked off that they've dropped the Tesco Clubcard points in the new plan.
TOG
Hi TOG
I have to agree; this was very poor service and I'm really sorry we have inconvenienced you in this way.
Glad you were finally able to switch tariff online even though our website was going extremely slowly due to the demand our mistake caused.
Hopefully, my earlier posts have explained what happened. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
