Is your heating ON or OFF?

Heating is off but have a small coal fire going in the back lounge as I am off work this week so am relaxing! had the gas and electricity bill today and have to say although it always costs too much has come in jointly at £397.05 I am pleased (or relieved perhaps), considering we have had the heating on when we felt we needed it (topped up with having the coal fire going at weekends as needed and only have spent £36 on coal). The house is large, has only single glazing in some rooms and the loft isn't insulated as it is still full of stuff that needs to be moved. (must make effort to sort this this year) I am only £13 in debit. There is definitely room for improvement though as OH will have the water temp set incredibly high, and we do still have the bad habit of leaving certain things on standby... and I suppose that where I live it has been mild this year but with all the stories of high prices I was expecting it to come in jointly around £600, I never seem to understand how much they allocate to the lower rate or higher rate so have perhaps overestimated? The good news for me is that I pay my water rates over 8 months and council tax over 10 but still allocate the full monthly payment when I don't have to pay in an account to cover the shortfall on the energy bills so will have approx an extra £400 in March to offset against our holiday, which we (well I certainly wasn't expecting) Am definitely going to pin OH in to helping clearing the loft though and making inroads into reducing it as much as possibleDont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0

Hey, bitter and twisted...i saw yellow crocus today too! No sign of mine though....
This morning was three degrees warmer than the last few mornings.....yum. Didn't need to put an electric heater on for the visitor who never came. Will need the woodburner tomorrow though i think.0 -
Wow, what a drop from yesterday here. No frost, but felt like there should be.
Woodburner on for the people coming here today, but might well have put it on for me alone today. Also, bulb went in the dog lamp. So have thrown a heater in with them this moring, will replace the bulb this afternoon.0 -
I've stopped putting the heating on in the mornings to get the house to 15deg, so it just stays on about 13 or 14 by itself, no one seems to have noticed or mentioned it.
I've also dropped the evening temperature from 15 to 14 and again, no ones said anything. My DD was lounging around in a T shirt the other day, so it can't be that bad.
Although we do have blankets in the lounge if anyone wants to cover up while watching tv. My wife usually does, but then she works in a hot office all day.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
19.5 here and heating off still though looks like temperatures are dropping right down next week..0

Had quite a lot of rain this morn, but this arvo the sun was shining and has relly turned cold at tea time so heating is on, suppose to get very cold next week and night time frosts are getting pretty low, so def need plenty of heating next week.....0

Think we have only had it on one work/school day morning this winter. We usually switch it on about 4-5pm and turn it off just before bed. Managed without it at all yesterday but it is much colder today so it has been on since 4.45pm.
It was snowing in the next town where the boys go to school.

heating is on for 3-4 hours every day spread over the day. One room (the one we use the most) I keep between 18 and 23-just too cold otherwise.
I can't believe some of you are able to function at 14 or 15-way too cold for me-but I admire you0 -
The only thing to be admired is some people's rigid fear of receiving heating-bills they can't afford to pay and resisting the temptation to put it on. There's little pleasure in not feeling snug when you remember what it was like to lounge around in a t-shirt and no socks on in the middle of a winter. Sill, turning that thermostat down by one degree at a time is hardly noticeable. When it feels too cool turn it up again if you can afford it, I say. Alas, no-one is giving out medals for fortitude and self-control yet.
That yellow thing in the sky was spotted this afternoon and I could actually feel some warmth from it on my face when I went out. Lovely. When I came out of the shop it was raining but there was a beautiful rainbow. Also lovely.
Just seen the weather forecast this evening and there's snow a-coming at the weekend, looking most likely at the moment for those in the north-east and Wales. Get those thermals and snow-boots at the ready, folks.0 -
On and up , it is freezing here and snowing and I refuse to be cold in my own home. We will put it back down when (ok, if) the weather settles back down again.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
