Where are you that it's so cold that you can your breath indoors? It's very mild here and I just assume it's similar everywhere. Still, this time last year it was not mild at all. I barely had the heating at all, about one hour a day. I survived and no hypothermia. Little chance with all the layers I had on

The scare stories anooy me a little becuase they risk making desperate people pushed to the limit risk dropping over the edge with despair. A
Though it is REaLLY important to be sensible and know when enough is enough and how to keep warm most effectively if you have no choice.

I too manage on far less heating than most, and have chronic ill health and yet am doi ok this winter and have done before. This winter has been SO much milder, and i have beelucky enough not to have a cold yet...last year i had one after the other relentlessly.

Fwiw thoguh, i see my breath in the house a fair bit. It means i'm warmer than the Air around me, which means i can't remember the last bath i hD that didn't look like the stage from the top of the pops set ....all misty, and often have dragons breath when doing vigourous housework. I saw my breath yesterday in thr kitchen at i think seven degrees.

Incidentally, opening my windows this morning for the fresh air....very important for those with no or limited heating to air their homes, the temps raised from six degrees to eight degrees with no heating over the course of the morning in my north and east facing room. I was very pleased with that.

It was so warm at ours on Saturday we has the windows wide open, so heating went off Sat night and stayed off. We each have a 'silky' a shiny throw type blanket and we snuggle under these and found we do this regardless of the heating being on or off so may as well save some pennies! ;o)

Lovely boyf always wanders round topless in shorts so it cant be too cold here lol!

(think the buffet restaurant below does help with keeping the flat warm!

Woke up to a sharp frost, but its gone now and its started to rain a bit, no sun today and that on its own bring the temps down a tad or 2, so the heating is on........

Although it is the same temperTures as yesterday...today is wet and grey and grim, yesterday was dry and fresh and sunny and so today feels colder.

I have lit some candles down stairs for at least some psychological warmth! Tomorrow is grim and i have someone here doing some work, so will pop an electriv heater in that room for a couple of hours and thursday we have people here, one of whom has chest problems so i will light the woodburner then.

My heating is still off. I have no job and not much money, but I do have a fleece jacket and a blanket.

My heating off for the simple fact I am fed up of lining the pockets of CEO's - its become more of that issue however since being aware of it we now have a pile of money we will be removing from our BG account, so it has been a great plus.
  • Well, as I'd had no heating on since Christmas I decided to treat myself and put it on for 90 minutes while I drew a bath and lounged in it for a bit last night. Luxury!

Every window is wide open here to get a good airing going on. It feels quite cool because it's so humid. They are going to be closed any minute now it's almost dusk.

These lengthening days are cheering me up no end. It won't be long until the daffs and crocuses are up and fully in bloom. Nearly spring. Nearly.

    Hi everyone
I thought I was doing well with my heating but after reading some of your threads Im really rubbish:rotfl:

I try not to put my heating on until night time but some days I get soooo cold even with extra clothing on that I relent and put it on just to warm the house through, although I only heat the rooms that I use:)

Anyway Im off to get my dinner on and its another hour and a half until I can put the heating on again so I had better get moving about

I have seen one daff already. My snowdrops are nodding and glowing tremendously....under the shadow of a sumerflowing but in bloom now osteopermum, and a still flowering from last summer snap dragon. Its all very odd imo.
