The duvet is turned back in the morning to air the bed. In the evening I give it a good shake to fluff up the feather and down, and put our hot water bottles in a bit before bedtime. I have got our warm pyjamas out. It is good to get into a warm bed. If I need an extra blanket over me, it goes under the duvet, so the insulating feathers, keeping the warmed air in, are not squashed flat. The old feather eiderdown was a top layer of insulation, over the top sheet, the wool blankets and the cotton candlewick bedspread.
I remember our freezing bedroom on winter mornings when we were little, we put our clothes in the bed to warm them, and got dressed in bed. The outside toilet was bitterly cold.
Freezing mornings here this week. I have got my long thermal underwear out. Two to four layers of clothing indoors, with a gilet, hat and rug to snuggle into for when I am sitting still. The thermostat is at 17°C in the day, 7°C at night. We had the meters read and the last monthly bill was reduced to £59, a useful saving.8 -
I remember you mentioning the blanket under the duvet last year I think @Nelliegrace - was an excellent tip and made the bed so much warmer last year and this. Thank you 🥰Lancashire

Thank you @SuzeQStan. We missed the severe blizzards of 1947 but the cold of 1962-63 is still in our bones. We watch the winter forecasts, hoard more store cupboard food than we need, and get anxious about milk and bread and power cuts at the least hint of snow.

The temperature is picking up a little now at 7degC but I have to say that I am not thriving in the cold and dark. I feel like I may have all of 6 productive hours a day when it is fully light.
I find it particularly hard to leave a warm bed, even if it is to get directly into a hot shower / sit under a heated blanket. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

ETA: I do accept I need to flick that switch on - I left my devices charging in their usual spot this morning and more than two hours later the battery levels hadn't budged and I had messages telling me that charging would resume when the temperature is back to normal operating range. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I didn't realise when posting that the reason it was cold is that my 4 year old combi boiler has an intermittent fault - despite being told when serviced the other week it is running at "104%" efficiency! Need to get it sorted as the last thing I need is for it to go kaput for good. I can't deny that I'm saving money though, the smart meter yesterday evening didn't even register £2.Rosa_Damascena said:ETA: I do accept I need to flick that switch on - I left my devices charging in their usual spot this morning and more than two hours later the battery levels hadn't budged and I had messages telling me that charging would resume when the temperature is back to normal operating range. No man is worth crawling on this earth.

Ive got my heating on at 18 degrees during the day and 15 overnight. The flat ive moved into has been empty for nearly a year and and one of the neighbours told me the previous tenant never ever put the heating on at all as he didnt feel the cold. Well I do (I have an underactive thyroid) and .I tend to get stiffer when the weather is cold and damp. Ive saved a buffer during the summer at my previous house and i have the same energy company as they let me transfer my account to my new address and theyve also applied my warm front discount. Ive had my dehumidifier on most days and cant believe how much water it has collected but the flat is starting to feel warmer nowits dried out. Ive got my second shingles jab tommorow i wasn't very well after the first one, so im hoping this one will be better.6

Does it count if you put your heating on and then discover that your gas smart meter hasn't communicated with Octopus or anyone else since the beginning of November? It last managed a whole month's worth of readings in August. Have to say it is an absolute pile of sh*t and hasn't worked properly since it was installed last December ...Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027

Deep seated hatred of Scottish Power and all who sail in her - would love to see Ofgem grow a pair and actually do something about it.4 -
Our dehumidifier has been going full tilt as well - and as you say it does feel warmer when it’s dry.Auntycaz said:. hope shingles jab goes easier on you this time round 🙏🏻Lancashire

That sounds bad and familiar - when we 1st went w 🐙 they couldn’t communicate with our smart meter and we found out that some bright spark at 🐙 had recorded the incorrect mpan for our meter. Human error 🙈MikeyPGT said:Does it count if you put your heating on and then discover that your gas smart meter hasn't communicated with Octopus or anyone else since the beginning of November?
