heat pumps are diabolically expensive and very cumbersome to install.  I can see massive public resistance.  I also foresee, shortly before new gas central heating boilers are banned, a massive rush by the public to buy a new one.!
The council is responsible for our heating system so it would be their decision if it came to it, not ours - but I can't see that happening any time soon.  That said, if they did go down that road no doubt they would pass the cost on to their tenants.  That happened when we had the gas mains laid on and the boiler/radiators installed.  The work was done by BG and council contractors but we had to pay an extra amount each week on top of rent for 10 years.  Now the annual boiler service, any repairs, replacement parts etc are the council's responsibility.  A part of me also wonders about the logistics of installing heat pumps in communal properties like ours.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • It has been very cold the past few days here. I have had the heating on for a good few hours each day and my halogen heater on in the evenings too.
It IS cold but feels far worse than it should because it is damp with it, its now started raining hard. For me, even a bit of sun makes a massive difference.

I have been wfh this week and the heating has been on constantly.

So much to read, so little time.

Cold and dull, been out walking for several hours, still some icy spots on the lanes. Lounge 7.6 when I came in but today is the start of a new quarter so the fan heater is on 2kw. Compared to Aug/Sept/Oct (which was a low 366 units) usage for Nov/Dec/Jan is over 100% higher (846 units)  - I suppose lights were on far more often, far higher percentage of hot meals instead of cold, many more cups of tea, shower has to be set a bit higher etc and a bit of fan heater
