Off, most definitely off - because all the radiators have been drained ready for replacement. Am hoping the temperature stays bearable until then!

CH still off here, but I have a heated clothes horse on the landing which helps to keep any chills at bay now and then. It goes on overnight on cheap rate. 😉
DH is always cold so he's wearing 2 layers plus a thick cardi but I'm still in t shirts and a thinner cardi so far.
No extra blankets needed just yet.
Long may it continue. We have all electric in our house, so it's never cheap, whatever we do.

  • Heating never came on this morning, despite turning thermostat up to 18c. I turned it up again for 20mins to check it was all working ok & it is.
I installed heat reflectors behind each radiator this summer, & the external wall behind the bedroom one was cold whilst the reflector was warm so hoping they make a little bit of a difference come winter.

Off for a 14mile hike today. Weather shows sunshine & 21c heat, so it'll be like summer again!
  • I put it on for a couple of hours on Wednesday night, first time it's been on since April. It was chilly and room stat was saying 16.5c.

Aswell as it being on for a couple of hours I'd also say I was testing it making sure everything was up to scratch ready for the winter. :D No good going to put the heating on for the first time on the coldest day of the year to then find out it doesn't come on!

All those goings on in saudi, I have to be glad I fixed my energy cost only 3 months ago, got a 2 year fix. I probably pay too much per month right now but already have £193 credit as I paid a month in advance
Far too warm in my house right now and still hard to get to sleep but at last its raining and it will cool down. My room stat is 23 at 8.30am. I am still having to block the sun out. So far am loving an e/w orientation, 2 through rooms downstairs with good light all day long but I had to have insulating window decor to block the sun. Swings and roundabouts and btw I love my patch of shade at 2pm on the east side

It is important to get the boiler serviced in good time, my heating engineer says the callouts go manic in mid winter. and sometimes he cannot get to them all. Also know how to de-ice your condensate pipe if it is outside, mine is internal as its a new boiler, he told me about the rip off plumbers going to desperate people for the frozen condensate pipe. Charging over £100 for the job a jug of boiling water would do

When I fisrt moved in he showed me how to raise the water pressure in the boiler, it needs to be 1.5 when on otherwise the ch may not work.

Its not uncommon to accrue a credit in the summer months if you are paying a regular DD based on annual usage. Watch it erode as soon as autumn sets in.

i think you were right to fix in the summer as energy prices only ever go up as it gets colder. 2 years will fly past!

Indian Summer ended in the night with the arrival of rain. Time to get my body warmers out. They make quite a difference to how warm or cold I feel.
As my granny always used to say "PUT ON, NOT SWITCH ON"
  • Very wet day in the Republic of South Yorkshire today. I'd wear a coat if I ventured out, but still pretty warm indoors. I replaced the batteries in two little thermostats in my kitchen & lounge so I can now read the displays again, both still above 19c.

Even though I've turned the heating thermostat up to 18c, I'm not expecting it will come on as the house is holding in heat well.

Despite it being very warm walking in the peak District yesterday, the sun was noticeably lower in the sky. I'm looking forward to Autumn!
  • Definitely feeling a bit more of a chill in the air outside this weekend, & the thermometer which measures humidity is telling me that my lounge is at 70% - classed as wet (although it has been raining for a week).
Heating has not been switching itself on so far but I'll be giving it a blast this evening whilst I catch up on the last two weeks of Bake Off to get some heat into the house again.
I've been waking up at 3am for the past few nights & realised today it must be cos im feeling a chill, so part of today's household chores is putting the winter duvet back on the bed.

Not seen any of them yet as I am saving myself for when I can put my living room back together once and for all. I do miss bingeing on light entertainment with a drink and some popcorn on a Saturday evening :o
