i bet he hasn't actually been assigned an ip by the router - if his IP address starts..i think, 169.xxx (or anything except 192.xxx) then you need to manually set up the connection, been a while since i've done that, but google is your friend
..pretty sure right licking the network icon on taskbar...is the start

You're correct an IP address starting as 169. is a private one, hence I asked to run the ipconfig command which would display ip address and subnet information. If the router is set to DHCP (which most should be) then the ip address should be assigned automatically.0

If you bring up a command prompt by clicking the start menu and then typing cmd
on the command prompt if you type ipconfig what is the output from this?
Now with ipconfig I get this:
Connection specific DNS Suffix . :
Link local IPv6 Address: 169.254.240.114
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2
then i got a series of stuff about Ethernet adapter

Set up the router with the users details as received from the ISP .

You dont appear to have an IPv4 address (Mines 192.168.1.10 which is what my router gives me)
Sounds to me like its not auto set, or IPv4 is switched off or something?
Also, the IPv6 address looks wrong (Cant give mine as I have it set very weird anyways):idea:0 -

I tried that but same probs. connects to router but "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"If you boot in safe mode but with networking enabled, will it connect? If it does you'll then have to figure out what's causing the problem, but at least it will be a step in the right direction!IWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
