what I do with my 3 year old daughter who has thick curly hair is put her in the bath and cover her head with original source mint and tea trea oil conditioner, comb it through then rinse ! :D

if I see a daddy nit I pick it out with my fingernail and drown it ! :p

my 7 year old daughters school is always full of head lice,I just use a nit comb to brush her hair with morning and night [instead of a brush] then i apply fructis leave in conditioner [does not leave hair like cardboard with white flakes].
A good killer is to crimp your daughters hair,it frys them!!!

I'm new to this headlice lark and only last week saw my first live one :( Daughter was having a good scratch and when I looked there was a big transparent one with a line down it...lovely! I then saw a few teeny tiny ones too.

I have used Derbac M, Robi-comb, tea tree shampoo and conditioner with metal toothed nit-comb, Asda headlice repellant and pure tea tree oil. I think they're gone now (they bludi should be) but I find that the nit combs don't pick up the eggs as her hair is so thin so I have to go through her hair literally strand by strand, picking them out with my nails.

Someone mentioned double row nit combs...... anyone know where I can get one?
Just run, run and keep on running!

ooooooo, dont ya just luv 'em!

I've spent ages being nitty nora the nit explorer this evening. Didn't find any actual lice just eggs on her hair - do you reckon the big grown up buggers have jumped off to annoy someone else or have I missed them? Will be checking again for them tomorrow.

*off I wander scratching as I go*
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

i spent fortunes and years trying to rid my daughters hair of head lice she has very long thick hair down to her knees she allways wore it in a plait but the little critters allways got in then we discovered olive oil its true it kills them instantly because like fish they have gills and it seeps in and hey presto there dead and the oil makes it very easy to then combe out the eggs.
because the oil is hard to wash out with shampoo i allways used fairy washing up liquid. she is now in secondry school thank god and for three years has been head lice free

You will only be able to see nits when they are dead or stunned by the above treatments- unless person is extremely infested- as they move so quickly.
I got a herbal home made treatment which uses 10 drops of tea tree oil - mixed with shampoo and applied to hair - then cover hair with cling film or shower cap for 25 mins and rise out - then use nit comb.
It is frightening what you find after this as you have been sure person seemed clear. You need to do this every week for three weeks.

wow elona you always have such brill ideas I think you are becoming my guru!!

I had an awful time at the end of the summer term with daughter, son and I all getting headlice and then getting them back!! Initially I used wet combing with metal nit comb/ conditioner / tea tree/ electric comb combos but in the end I treated the 3 of us chemically then continued with the above!! They did go but I hated putting the metal comb through my daughter and my hair every second day as we both have long hair and it takes ages to do properly as they move around!! It was the first time we had hair lice so managed 6 years of nursery and school before we succumbed!

I personally believe there are people in the class who do not do regular checks or continue the wet combing for long enough afterwards (ie min 2 weeks). I get cross when I get them oh dear I am turning into a misery!!

Good luck all you nit busters!

My 3 year old kept getting them (or I wasn't getting rid of them) til I tried mayonnaise, smearing it in and leaving it for an hour or so, left his hair lovely and soft too. And no worries about chemicals...and yes, I'm scratching like mad since about halfway through this thread.
