it's not really a reflection of a modern house...neverdespairgirl wrote: »No toaster, microwave or power tools. I forgot the oven, because the hob is gas, but you are right, the oven is electric. And we do have a food processor. So that's 18, not 16 (-:0 -

Cannot see the attraction of having the latest gadget and keep up with the Joneses item every 5 minutes. Have paid the mortgage off though and when I was a semi pro musician always made a point in using high quality, if not the ltsest fashion in gear. Suppose it all depends what floats your boat.0 -
that's all lovely but most modern households have a large dependency and use for electrical appliances - it has little to do with keeping up with the Jones or floating boats.Cannot see the attraction of having the latest gadget and keep up with the Joneses item every 5 minutes. If you can't afford a washing machine and a TV I would guess you'd be considered to be living in poverty in most developed countries for the last 20 years. Hell, these days a 32" surround sound CRT TV has a value of about $/£0. 10 years ago that would cost you a month's net wage as a moderately well paid person.0 -

What appliances are people dependent upon?
If it is impossible to live with a Mk1 IPhone and you feel that you just must spend hundreds of pounds on getting the Mk2, you are just a fool to the Apple marketing department.
I do know of one family who replaced their daughters 9 month old laptop because she decided it was the wrong colour. Seems crazy to me.0 -

What do we lack that the modern house has?
Microwaves - never fancied one.
Toaster - we don't really eat bread, and never toast, so don't use one....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
