I have my sporran trimmed regularly by my personal attendant - MacSweeny Todd. He also does a lovely pie, secret ingredients apparently;)Nargleblast wrote: »Midshipman iPhone, there be no Tetleys rubbish on this ship. Only the nectar from the blessed apple in this bar. Och, ma heid's nippin wi all the apple concoctions, feel like I could crumble any minute. :rotfl:
Ooh...just noticed someone has mentioned Scottish Dancing...(mind you...that's how I broke my foot back in 1983...actually it was a sailors' hornpipe...and in a pub at lunch-time).....I could do this kind of dancing...won't affect my asthma!!
Nice to see how you rallied at the mere mention of Scottish dancing,
apple grog has that effect!:rotfl:
Maybe our next outing should be a ceilidh for St Andrews day on 30 November? Any excuse to get my sporran out again!

Good morning everyone,
Boy, that was some outing!:rotfl:
Back to harsh reality today, spends Im afraid. Off to Te$co for some groceries. Nothing else required today other than putting savings away and Im going to get a congrats card for my Dad. He's been going to WW for about a year now and this week his weight loss reached 40 pounds! Not bad for a 79 yr old! He's the only man in the group - I think he likes the fuss the women make of him!!
Will check back later chums!
Have a lovely day everyone:)

Morning, well done to your dad Jinty definitely deserves a card! I am up to 6 NSDs now. Was planning another one but popped into our local shop and they were getting rid of loads of nice wine at half price so ended up buying 6 bottles
. Felt good until I got home and realised what I spent. Oh well, going away tomorrow but still going to try and reach my target - will get DH to spend his money :rotfl:

3Dogs - keeping my fingers well and truly crossed your Mum's care gets sorted today
jintyb - huge congrats to your Dad on the weight loss. 40lbs in 12 months is a more than respectable loss for anyone, but fantastic for someone that 'little bit older' when metabolism has (supposedly) slowed right down :T I've only managed 30lbs in the same timeframe, which has taken some serious work on the exercise front over the last 5 months and been helped by having a fairly active job (don't have an accurate record of my weight when I started work, so I only know the ball-park figure)
I was listening to you crazy lot last night, but found myself a nice quiet corner aboard the Ennessdee to just watch - not feeling on top form, as I have a sore arm after getting my 'flu shot on the way to work yesterday. It's never been this sore before - so I can assume it's down to having significantly less padding on my arms
I also stirred a hornets nest on another forum yesterday which left me a bit 'out of things' - mentioned in passing I'd been for a slow and steady 3 mile run before going to see the GP to push for a physio referral for my shin splint (as recommended by the Sports Physio I had my free consult with on Sunday - and which she reluctantly agreed to, so now I'm playing the waiting game for an appt), and there are a couple of people on there who reckon I should give up my running/take time off work (like the GP was pushing me to do, even though I can't afford the time off and can't rest completely even if I did due to having to walk the dog) rather than insisting on access to NHS resources for a self-inflicted injury I'm not prepared to take care of myself. But reading the 'net there are two schools of thought on shin splints - the first is complete rest (which I can't do) and the second is to 'run through it' while cutting back on sessions/distances/speeds (which is what I've been doing). However, as others pointed out, a few physio sessions will almost certainly cost the NHS a lot less than they'd have to shell out of I remained overweight (more 'outages' from my back, and the prospect of long-terms meds for high cholesterol in the future given my count was slightly elevated 12 months ago). And I also hope that they'll show me more exercises to minimise the risk of this happening again/reduce recovery time if it does - meaning I can self-manage any I get in the future. I'd have happily paid to go privately if I could afford to, but I'd struggle to afford more than a single 'mates rates' session with a sports physio who's a member of the running club - even if she'd responded to the emails I sent her 2 months ago.
Anyhow..... Yesterday was NSD #14 :T Nothing in fish/meat/chilled Whoopsies to tempt me as I left work, and no energy to even consider if it was worth going back to check final reductions.
My freezers are still pretty full given I'm now a good 6.5 weeks into my 'eat from freezer' menu plans - but I must have used more than I've been putting in, as the 7 portions of cheese sauce went in very easily (have to admit I did find some tubs for it that are considerably smaller than the marge tubs I normally use, but still a result as they all went into one spot rather than squeezed into various different drawers) - and I reckon I can easily fit the second portion of last nights Enchilladas in as wellCheryl0 -
Good morning everyone. Unexpected items of expenditure yesterday squashed my chances of a NSD, and regretfully it looks like I might not make my target for October after all. However, I believe in the NSD creed - any NSD is a good one, any day when the money stays in your pocket is a day when other thieving barstewards don't get their greasy mitts on it.
So, onwards and upwards.....
Have just about recovered from the shenanigans on board the good ship Ennessdee, would have been nice to see more of you on there but real life does sometimes get in the way of things.....Jinty, cracking idea about Nov 30 St Andrews Day ceilidh, definitely one for the diary, Aunty Spoonchops! In the meantime there is of course Halloween a week on Sunday, so get your pumpkins, your witches' hats, your black cats and your breakdancing skeletons ready for the NSD gang Halloween ball - any ideas for this momentous occasion gratefully received.
3Dogs - obviously we can't make accurate judgements about the situation with your Mum as we are not there on the spot....however, from what you have said so far it sounds as if Mum might not have been eating properly or looking after herself for some time. Now she has become dehydrated, probably caught some infection from being run down, possible stomach ulcer bleed as well......all this can make people, particularly elderly and frail people, very confused and disorientated. I think, if they haven't done so already the staff on that ward should move her to a bed closer to the nurses' station where she can be kept under close observation, particularly as Mum keeps removing drips etc. Are they keeping an eye on fluid intake, urine output, vital signs? I would hope this is the case, and that any deterioration in any of these things would be acted upon promptly with the correct referrals. The staff may well be doing all these things, but I suspect the old story about poor staffing levels applies here, it usually does when patients receive sub-optimal care on general wards. The sooner the powers that be recognise that if you put the right number of properly trained staff on the wards the patients do better, the sooner we will see cases like this disappear form the news.
I would suggest you suss out the situation yourself first, then talk to the staff, then if necessary gets the PALS mob involved.
Have a good day everyone.One life - your life - live it!0
