Has anyone tried Lidl's Formil washing powder?

  • I have used the Formil standard powder with no problems.

Then I purchased the Biological type. I washed a mixed load and as a couple of pairs of my work jeans were present I added a shot of washing-up liquid - disaster ! Everything that wasn't black (or very dark) came out a rich chocolate brown!!!!! Aggggggh!

I blamed the addition of the washing-up liquid....however.
Just completed another wash, NO washing-up liquid this time - three pairs of my black jeans pair of the wifes knix and a pair of mine (Both basic white)..... 60 degrees
The wife and I now have another set of chocolate brown underwear!!!!

If my experience is anything to go by STEER CLEAR unless you like the color brown!

Note: There is NIL info as to the manufacturer no details at all - only the distributor.
Good luck with Formil - its back to Surf for me!

We've been buying their own brand this past 2 years now and I must say:), I don't really notice the difference between this and the branded powder. Washes clothes well, nice subtle fragrance too, the powder's never clogged up the powder compartment either or the pipes and washing machine itself.

Best time to buy this, is when Lidls sell the XXL box of this powder...something like 100 washes for I think it's £8 or £9?? :Twhich reminds me, I'm on the look out again for when the offer's back on again in store to replace the box I took out of the shed.

All in all, why not buy a smaller box and give it a go and see for yourself. The big difference is the price compared to the more expensive branded ones.

Sounds as if the combination of enzymes + the high foaming action of the washing up liquid has dislodged something in the pipes/outside of the drum, probably that black mouldy stuff that lurks inside washing machine pipes unless you give them a good blast through at 90'C once a month with a cupful of bleach as well as powder. (Good time to wash all the floor cloths.) When was the last time you did a high temperature wash? Or used bio powder generally, which tends to reduce this build up?

I've used Formil non-bio powder for years now, OH and DD have sensitive skin and this powder is fine for them. I live in a soft water area so I only need half the recommended amount of powder, it still gets the clothes good and clean at a 40'C wash. I hardly ever need to use a higher temperature wash except for a cleaning wash once per month.

For those with issues of residue, try putting vinegar in your fabric softener compartment. It helps to get rid of the soap residue.

For white washing, I add some soda crystals to the powder in the dispenser.
