    Primus, what a complete joke.

    I agree, they are a rip off.

    Despite cancelling caller ID I I have had two bills no which bear no resemblance to the advertised line rental of £7.99 inc VAT.

    The on line bill does not match what they claim to be charging and call centre is pathetic.

    Avoid!! It is not a a worthwhile saving, in fact it is not even a saving!

    I have been battling with them since July 2010 to get my bill to reflect the £8.99 deal I signed up for.

    Your issue is the same as mine, they were charging for features you didn't know would be migrated from your previous provider e.g. CallDivert and/or CallerDisplay or some other chargeable feature. Yet even when I requested them to cancel they seemed to take months to actually do it. Email them asking for a breakdown of the specific bill(s) you are querying, quote your account number and bill references. [FONT=&quot][EMAIL="savers@primustel.co.uk"]savers@primustel.co.uk. The features have now been removed but I'm now getting charged extra for non DD (their fault as they haven't amended my DD details for new bank even though I requested it 28th Jan). Also now getting charged £1.50 for Paper bills that I didn't request. They do seem to refund the charges by reducing subsequent DD amounts, it's just a total pain to get there.

    Yes, IDNet, very honest and fair.

    No long contracts ( 30 day only )..no overseas call centres.

    Smaller, less well known companies can often provide far far superior customer service and a much more honest approach. Inactive mentions one, I'm with The Phone Co-op who for me have been a breath of fresh air compared to previous attempts to "chase a bargain". Helpful staff in Oxfordshire and an internet team in Manchester who have always been able to help me when I've needed it. Easy to speak to the same person about any issues - no being passed from pillar to post.

    Various others on here will also be able to recommend some of the other smaller companies. Not necessarily moneysaving, but certainly sanitysaving! I've concluded to focus my money saving on the major expenses (mortgages, fuel, loans etc) and if my line rental costs me a couple of quid more than the cheapest option, I'll live with that in order to know I've got a phone service I can trust, rely on, and get any help I need easily on the end of a phone.

    Good advice, I agree 100%, some people seem to forget that they are paying for a service, if that service is not up to scratch, then they are not getting value for money.

    For my needs, IDNet actually works out a lot less than the likes of BT ( pass me a bucket ).

    Vonage are excellent, the acid test of any company is how they handle problems and when I have had issues they have always excelled.

    Echo all the sentiments regarding primus here. Started with them just under a year ago, as was cheapest basic line rental provider back then. Had caller ID which cost about 50p. Noticed as well, caller ID went up to £2.50 (mega increase compared to 50p) without any warning whatsoever, putting line rental to over £12 - was less than £10.

    Have tried to contact them via email and absolutely no response yet in over 2 days - typical bad customer service.

    Will not be renewing contract and it better not be on auto renew either !

    At the moment BT seem cheapest line rental with caller ID if you pay up front 12 months (£10 month) that also allow access to CPS, or is there anyone else?

    Primus=Avoid
