Primus Saver rip-off

  • Primus customers have now been sold to New Call Telecom Ltd. The announcement says:
In a world changing rapidly as a result of technology and communication, it is crucial that your telecoms provider is at the top of its game. The recent acquisition by New Call Telecom has allowed for the creation of a new, diverse, and agile company, better equipped to serve its customers effectively.
The first way New Call Telecom Ltd is serving its customers "effectively" is to maintain the 400% ramp on caller display. Ofcom tells me they are in breach of General Condition 9.3, but Primus / New Call Telecom Ltd don't seem to understand the rules. So it looks like my next move is to Otelo for me (moneysavingexpert does not allow me to post the link to Otelo so Google it!).
  • I noticed last week that they have increased the cost of call displayed, rang them up and complained. I asked why they didn't let me know of an increase? the call centre person said "I should have looked at the price increases on there web site" !!!!!! !!!

I threatened to terminate my contract if they didn't give me my money back and cancel the caller display, she went away came back said they would do that. Call Display wenet of immediately. Need to check my bill to see if they have credited me the charge from last month.

Only moved 2 months ago if I new of this I would have stayed with BT!

I will switch back to BT or Virgin when Primus Contract has finished.

These telecoms company are crooks, I left BT because of the evening call time changing to 7pm. they are all rip-off merchants! would junk the hole lot if i didn't need internet.

Hi . They immediately offered me a deal of £6.49p a month. I paid £113.88p for the annual line rental and they credited my account with £36 as a loyalty / dont move payment. They also upgraded my account to get free weekend and free evening calls - and its a 12 month contract.. Hope this helps.
    HOw did you do this???

My contract ends in January so will probably give notice in December and leave then whatever the price. I cannot support such a devious company.
Nothing much to loose there. is it?

Very wise decision. Research and then go for it.

Things go from bad to worse. I have cancelled my Primus contract but bt said I cannot transfer my number because Primus owns it and I will have to have a new one. Primus says that the number will be transferable as long as bt starts my contact on the same day theirs ends. Now bt has agreed to give me my old number but it could take up to two weeks from the transfer date. My broadband supplier, PlusNet, tells me that the change of number counts as a house move but I am allowed one move for free each year. Two changes, to the new number and then back to the old, count as two moves and will cost £65. So I will have to cancel my contract with them, wait for up to two weeks with no broadband, and than get a new contract once I have my old number back.
Why is everything so complicated and expensive?

Just phoned up and they have credited me for the past few months, although they won't reduce the charge for the rest of the contract. They say I can't get out of the contract early. I'm phoning back tomorrow, when they say I can talk to a supervisor.

They also say I'm on an auto renewing contract and have to cancel 1 month before my contract ends. If I can't get out of the contract what is the best way of moving before they auto-renew my contract? I obliviously don't want to cancel, I want to 'migrate' to another provider. So do I just sign up with someone else a month or so before my contract ends?

    Thanks in advance.

Just got off the phone from Primus. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I told her I didn't think the charges were fair as I hadn't been informed. I also quoted this bit of their T&C's at her
19.4 Primus reserves the right to make changes to these terms and conditions and/or prices by giving Customers twenty-eight (28) days notice, unless such changes are due to legal and/or regulatory reasons, in which event the change will be made immediately on the website without prior notice. Should an increase in the prices and/or change in the terms and conditions put the Customer at a significant disadvantage, then Primus will notify the Customer in writing and the Customer has a right to immediately terminate the Agreement, failing which the Customer shall be bound by the amended terms and conditions and/or prices. In the event of such termination under this clause 19.4., the Customer will not be liable to pay the termination payment under clause 12.5. The changes to the terms and conditions and/or prices shall be displayed on the Primus website at http://www.primussaver.co.uk and can be requested by writing to or by calling Primus customer service department.
She then agreed to reduce my caller display charge back to 56p for the remainder of the contract. I will keep a close eye on my bill and make sure it happens.

It did take 3 calls to get a supervisor as they were unavailable on the first 2 calls.

Primus have also increased connection charges on calls on my old package without notification which is pretty annoying!

No. The plan still assumes BT line rental, a CPS (not WCLI) calls provider* giving inclusive/free evening and weekend 01/02/03 calls and a 18185 A/C.

    * Or BT's Unlimited Evening and Weekend plan (subject to necessary alterations to take account of BT's 7pm to 7am designation of what constitutes an 'evening').
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Primus, what a complete joke. Martin you need to seriously consider removing them from your list of deals, I signed up thinking that due diligence had already been done by MSE. I have now found that they have a history of incompetance.

Having failed to process the order for two months, I contacted them and they then enable the wrong phone line, which almost stopped my broadband service.
