    Hi
for those with BT thinking of swapping providers - i telephoned BT this afternoon and said i was thinking of swapping to primus. They immediately offered me a deal of £6.49p a month. I paid £113.88p for the annual line rental and they credited my account with £36 as a loyalty / dont move payment. They also upgraded my account to get free weekend and free evening calls - and its a 12 month contract. Hope this helps.

Lucky you I have just rang BT and told them I was thinking of moving to Primus as it was cheaper and where they (he) wasn't prepared to offer me anything. The guy first told me there was no one cheaper (I corrected him) and then told me he didnt have to make me any offer as BT provides the best service. I said I was very disappointed that BT wasnt prepared to even make any offer to me since had had been with them for about 20 years !

Can I ask what number you rang and which department you spoke too. This guy was in sales.

From what I have just read above I am not sure Primus is a good move so do I try BT again ?

    Cheers

0800 800 030 option 1 and ask fo BT's customer options team (AKA retentions department). Ignore the fact the menu talks about broadband.

You will have to agree to place your calls through BT if your not already doing so.

When i said you will have to agree to place your calls through BT if your not already doing so. I meant if you just had BT line rental and your calls were with another supplier.:D

As long as you are using or agree to use a BT Call Package the selective use of 18185 for certain calls should not affect any offer they might make.

Ok I rang again this morning and got thought to the house moving team which apparently takes overflow calls for the Customer Option Team. The women I fiest spoke to offer me line reduction to £10.29 a months so I pointed out that the line saver was still cheaper than that at £9.49. So thats what she then offered me.

I pointed out the premius was still cheaper and a friend had been offered £6.49 a month by paying £113 and being given a loyalty payment back of £36. She asked her supervisior and came back and said they didnt do that !

So still not futher to get the same deal...any suggestions ?

  • If an integral component of the service - like caller display - is to increase in price, the supplier must inform the customer. The customer can then elect to accept this (the new terms) or reject it, in which case Primus can either continue to supply at the previously agreed contracted price, or terminate the contract without charge enabling you to go somewhere else which in practise with computerised systems is what tends to happen, since the system isn't all that amenable to charging different people differing amounts for the same thing, it's not worth the effort to them to make an exception.

A possible solution is by way of a bill credit to end of term, if you're happy with that, to offset the increase.

Since they have not informed you, you are not liable to pay the increased charge so can quite happily remit payment minus the difference and say why you've done that. If you want to move on, there's your opportunity.

However should another supplier want a connection fee for you to move to them, Primus aren't obliged to pay that for you.

Plusnet seem to connect lines free or at a cost of about £50, Virgin will connect a line for £39 if you take broadband too.
I noticed an increase in the "other charges" which i rang about and emailed primus having found it due toan increase in the caller id charge and they have agreed that "the excessive Caller Display charges have been credited back to your account for now."

Not sure what for now means so i will prob move on and bundle it up with my broadband account.

I have just rung Primus to complain about the increased charge for Caller id and was told that the increase has been cancelled but they will be increasing the price in the future. I assume they will be giving a month's notice and I will be able to reject the contract without penalty. My contract ends in January so will probably give notice in December and leave then whatever the price. I cannot support such a devious company.
  • Just opened my bill yesterday, had been ignoring it for a week or so.

Are they nuts? A 400% increase for caller display, how on earth do they justify this? You just can't trust any company these days - I feel like I spend half my time just checking that they are all not swindling me.

Sent my complaint of to Primus, stating the legal position and rejecting their increase. Will see what they come back with. Also threatened them with OFCOM.

Looks like Primus will be joining NPower on my list of companies not to do business with.

    Will update with the response.
