butler_helen wrote: »Hello fellow card makers, I have just read the last 306 pages and a rather a lot of your blogs... I have them all saved, but I can't see how I can actually follow you. Do I need a blog too? If so, mine would be quite empty as I never get time to maintain diaries etc.
A quick questions for you all, are any of you going to the Stitch and Craft show in London planning to do any of the demos - if so, which are the best?
Also, you know the little images you have on your cards (dogs, children etc), are they stamps? prints? cut outs? where can I get them? I love some I've seen on your blogs but I don't know where to get them myself
happy crafting! I need make a 1st birthday card, should be interesting as I don't a number 1 or anything remotely 'baby' in my stash... I shall have to be creative!
You read all 306 pages, flippin 'eck you are dedicated. I'm a relative newbie, but I have dabbled in crafts for a long time, mostly sewing, but I seem to be in a "quick fix" mode, and find cards fill that need at the moment. You don't "need" a blog, but it does make it easier for sharing your cards.
A lot of the stuff I use is free, other than the cost of printing it out, and the glue, and the card stock and the crayons if I'm colouring it in, and the glitter, and the buttons and the ribbon - it's a really economical hobby:rotfl:
There are a lot of free resources out there, and in fact, it might be an idea, for when Part 6 starts to have a reserved post near the beginning of the thread to keep all the freebie pages.
just couple to start you off

And it's always investing in a couple of magazines when you first start out - I have just bought a new magazine called "Simply Homemade" there are free acrylic stamps and also some free papers with it.
Welcome and happy crafting xxx0 -
My understanding is that promarkers are alcohol based and need a waterbased ink for the stamp. You can build up layers of colour and because they are not water based the paper will not go bitty.
Aquamarkers, on the other hand, as the name suggests, are waterbased. Therefore, in a similar way to watercolours, you can use water to spread the colour, but you can't build up the colour in the same way as you can with promarkers. And too much of one colour in one area will make the paper start to break down, so you either need to be a bit more sparing or use special paper.
But of course, I could be wrong.0 -
Most people tend to use stamps on their cards and then colour them in. You can buy stamps from craft shops. You would also need an ink pad and something to colour them in with. Or, there are digital stamps available online that you can buy, download and print yourself. Does that help?
ooooh so I need more stamps? I do love stamps! Except they never have clean lines like yours, if I find a card with the 'stamp' on it, please could you tell me how it was made? (apologies in advance to the person who's card I will be using as an example).
I'm also having a clearout today on ebay to fund some nestabilities ... i LOVE them and have just one set... which I am wearing out.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
ok so, on this blog: http://melissa75-melsmess.blogspot.com/(Mel's Mess - who I know is an MSE'r), I love the top card and the little girl stamp/print/cut out, how was the little girl done? I have loads of promarkers from my graphics degree, so colouring in isn't a problem - just getting the image in the first place is!If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0

Excellent explanation! I followed that better than the one from the lady at craft fair! Although it was busy and I get anxious with lots of people bumping into me or pushing me around! so maybe I wasn't fully listening to her.. thanks!0 -

my credit card would like a quiet word:rotfl:
I on the other hand am very grateful - they're amazing!! I'm torn between spending some stitch and craft budget on them now and waiting to see if they are thereIf you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Can I ask a silly question please of you. is the design runner worth the money as i was watching it on ideal World the other night and had never seen one before and liked it but wondered whether or not i would use it.
Well what I have used so far it seems pretty good, you have to make sure the surface you are using is completely flat, I have a rather bumpy craft board which it doesn't like so i have to use a table and then tend to run over and ink the table too!Life is like a box of chocolates..........you always seem to pick the hard ones!0 -

Thank you to everybody who replied I think I will continue just to get the Promarkers then (for now lol) as I use watercolour crayons in the same way at the moment. As for special paper I always stamp onto Watercolour paper when I use them and have quite a large stock of it as my Pa in Law was a watercolour artist and when we lost him last year Ma in Law was going to throw all his paper so I took it to stamp on with the added thought that every time I used it I would think of him (sad I know) Kate :hello:0
