Making cards - Ideas (part 5)

Can anyone give me any tips on what to buy? I'm a complete beginner and my first cards were basically some nice papers stuck onto card then some sort of topper. Nothing exciting. I look at all your cards and think "I'd like to make that" then I realise I don't have half the stuff you lot have
I think for a basic crafting kit you need:
Double sided tape
Craft knife
Scissors
Anything else depends on the style of thing you want to make. You can get lovely things online, but it gets expensive quickly - anyone who reads the current recession articles saying that making your own gifts is cheaper knows it's a lie

My first DT card is on my blog too, which I'm very excited about. I made it using loads of things I hadn't used before, so can I enter it into our challenge too?
Indeedy - I have one on my blog that qualifies too lol xxOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

If you had a 10th of what i have you'd be able to make loads of stuff - I have a shameless amount of unused things - especially yummy stamps
If you have a printer than digital images and papers are probably the most cost effective and they don't take up much space either.
PS rasberry road has a half price sale on - am not posting a link to make it more difficult for everyone to shop as I'm desperate not to spend anything other than on food for a while until we adjust to only one incomeOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

Liza and Jellie, have you tried Ebay for pearlescent card stock? I bought some pretty pink from here, ask if they have cream. Also stocking the card
is Papercuts who seem to sell it in bulk and loads of colours, might be cheaper in bulk for invites. If it is, come back and let us know. Just checked on Papercutz 100 sheets £19.16 not a great saving then but free post when you spend over £25.00.
Thanks so much. I always forget to check ebay!!Good to see you back, rbk
Happy New Year, everyone, lets hope it's a good and peaceful time for us all.
Am I excited or am I excited?? I've joined the illustrious challenge blog design team at OSAAT and my first card for them has gone live today on the first day of the first month of a brand new year.
That is really exciting! I look forward to checking it out!flying_fresian wrote: »Well done Wifey!

Well done Wifey on your DT post.
RBK - good to see you posting but sorry you are still in hospital - hope you get discharged soon and that crafting is helpful.
Padster - I have so much stuff that would qualify for the challenge I don't know where to start........ :rotfl:0 -

Your first cards sound great! I've only been doing this seriously for a few months. At the start I did the following
1. Checked out blogs and asked questions about how cards were made, cheapest place to get stock etc. Everyone here is great and generally if you comment on peoples blogs and ask questions then people are happy to help
2. Bought some magazines for ideas and to play with a mixture of things free with the magazines while I figured out my syle
3. Check out tutorials on you tube for techniques and to understand what some of the crafting supplies are and how they are used!!
4. Watch Create and Craft TV for ideas but resist the temptation to buy!!
When making new purchases I tried to think about how much use things would get- I needed to be able to use them on as many cards as possible and wouldn't want to use the same image for the same person time after time.
Hope that helps!2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -

Careful Willow92 I started with a small kit from QVC and now I have 2 tall filing cabinets another cupboard and so so many plastic containers
The digi stamp is a good idea however you need pens and speaking as someone who thinks you can never have TOO many promarkers I started with about 6 and now have 42, 7 of which are greens !
I don't sell cards just make them for family birthdays and Christmas so I suppose they aren't cost effective however it's my hobby,it's what I do when I'm not growing veg on the lottie. It's cheaper than golf clubs -just !
You tube has taught me how to make all manner of different cards and C&C is very informative but some of the best inspiration I have found in the blogs on here,so much talent and advice0 -
I'd love digi stamps and stuff but mum seems to have the least economic printer ever. Apparently it costs like £40 to get new cartridges and I don't think they last too long.Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0
