True, as far as I'm aware. I was flashed by a Gatso on the other side of the road in Edinburgh but never got anything. There was nothing else on the road but no idea how/why they flash oncoming traffic. They always flash twice because they take 2 pics.

I guess it could, but never seen one on the opposite side. I reckon you're alright.

I have seen one on the opposite side of the road. A446 from the Belfry Golf Course to Bassets Pole.
  • Hoping it was a Gatso though cos it definitely flashed twice.....what d'ya reckon?
  • Truvelo can take rear photos too and could be on the other side of the road. I don't think there are any in Gloucestershire so you should be ok.
Nothing to see here, move along.

As I said, I understand some gatsos do dummy flashes to traffic the other way just as a deterrent or whatever...

Find out by looking at it on Google Streetview or post the road of the camera and someone else will check

Thanks. It was on the A48 somewhere between Gloucester and the turn off for Cinderford - heading West. Is that enough information?

Don't know how accurate this is but it suggests that all of the cameras on the A48...actually all in Glos are Gatsos?

A Truvelo flashes once & uses a Magenta filter so is a lot less noticeable. Able to detect from front & rear!

A Gatso flashes twice, normal bright white &, as far as I know, is capable of detection in either direction. However it is not approved for front facing use in the UK.

If you were flashed twice (white) from the front then it would be a Gatso & you have nothing to worry about....imo like ;)

    That's a Gatso
  • No it was a wider bit of road with wide chevrons marking the centre of the road...
