thanks misssarahleigh. Just to be 100% clear. I can be PAYE and self employed at the same time ?

Yes you can. The two things are seperate. I am PAYE and self employed.

Dont you find that your Ms world follows your real world. I did an assignment to look at phones, and the next day my phone broke. I did assignment to look at washing machines, and a couple of weeks later mine broke too!. Did a chemist today for backache, and low and behold, I woke up with a twinge in my back. I will NOT be doing the death shops!!!!:p

Yes you can. When you fill in your self assessment form, there will be a section to enter your PAYE details. Just copy all the figures from your P60.

Has anyone managed to pass the UNEMPLOYMENT test on GFK? PM me please as I can't seem to pass it. Thanks.
  • Can I ask a quick question re expenses. I understand what you claim for etc but if I put down 40p per mile on my jobs than practically all of my assignments would be negative and surely the tax office would get suspicious with that?:)
    Now on the 5:2 diet.

    Lost 25 1/2 lbs :j:j:j 33 1/2 lbs to go

I think this can be suspicious and can lead them to ask why you are doing it. So I have always included enough expenses to get a bit below the tax free limit and leave it at that. However, I'm not employed, so everything I earn comes from self employed earnings. A bit different if you do pay tax.

I do pay tax under the PAYE system anyway so I don't mind paying the tax I need to just after all my mystery visits I don't have tech much profit so I have been thinking about putting down 20p per mile instead? What does everybody think?:undecided

The official amount is 40p a mile as it covers wear and tear not just fuel.

If out of some utter madness you decide you do not want to claim all you are allowed then rather than reduce the amount per mile you should consider revising the mileage you actuially did to and fro. So instead of claiming the journey to the job from home and back maybe you went from a friends who lived just down the road....adjust it that way. Not claiming the correct allowable expenses would make all your book keeping look iffy and probably cause it to be looked at under a microscope in the future. IYSWIM

This might have been answered before and maybe I'm super-cautious but those of you who have registered and shop with Max's new company, did you have any qualms about scanning in your passport for ID? Or did you just not do that bit? I don't have a photo driving license you see.....
