No... a warm light area will be fine for outdoor types, I've never grown the F1 fancy ones, just good old Marketmore, and those sown 14/3 in a warm porch did the best for me.

Thanks, but they're greenhouse F1's. Being in Scotland I don't think outdoor ones would do well here.

I have had trouble with pepper plants when moving them into larger containers when they outgrow the smaller pot.

I just plant them into a big pot straight off.
Never had any issues this way.

As i said, its just what i found, others may have differing experiences.

Im hoping to be more sucessful this year; tomatoes, potatoes, chillis, peppers, cucumbers and herbs are on my growing list. Think Im going to plant straight into the tubs as moving them last year was a faff!!!

I did grow some lavendar in pots and have been nursing them along allllll winter to replace those that died last winter; a miracle theyre still alive! lol Not sure when to move them to the greenhouse (in back hall at mo - warm as it has the boiler). Anyone any idea? :)

  • Hi everyone - pleased to see we're all making a start again this year, been waiting for some spare time this week to get some seeds sown, it's Half Term so not been so easy. DD's are off out with friends today so I shall tidy out the Greenhouse and then get started on some Seed sowing. Shall keep them indoors for the time being though as my Greenhouse is not heated. Planning to sow some Aubergine, tomatoes, peppers, chilli's, leeks, early peas and if I've still got time will double check my ever growing stock of seeds:o to see what else can be sown at this time.;)

    Good luck everyone.:)

    Hi Everyone (Furny waves!)
I'm in my second year of growing & would love to join the gang.
Many members may remember me from the amount of questions I asked last year on this site when unsure.;)
I had a good first year last year & luckily everything was successful but I told myself I wouldn't do as much this year but with a few gardening offers on here I have given in & I am probably doing just as much, if not more!:rotfl:.
I feel a bit more confident with certain areas with a year under my belt. Everything I do will be on my patio/decked area in bags, pots & troughs in compost so I have bought a few special seeds (baby varities) as last year my decking started to resemble a jungle!:D.
We had a lovely day yesterday in Yorkshire, felt warm & sunny can't wait for this years growing to begin.
    I am to grow..
Strawberrys, Potatoes- Two types, Salad, Carrots-Parmex & Chantenay, Peas,Baby beets
Toms- Tumbeling & Mixed Cherry, Cucus (baby cucumber plant)- Excited, never done one before!
Sunflowers- (Ds wants a family competition the only BIG items I want ), Herbs & Salad onions.

Happy planning & growing everyone, & the gardening programmes are starting soon to give us even more inspiration & help:j
  • Good to hear many of us are getting back into the swing of things. I'm hoping for an extremely productive year with new projects already underway - especially the mini fruit orchard. Not sure how these will perform if the summer is the usual sunless affair. Hoping the new blueberry bushes will do something too.

Have 30 new raspberry canes in though one variety didn't look as good as the other 2 - Tulameen I think. Garlic and onions in and doing nicely and an explosion of strawb plants compared to last year - think 1 entire bed will have to be devoted to them - any recommendations as to what else I could plant with them???

Have a batch of early peas well advanced in the house and leeks and radish in too.

Hope to accomplish a load of things this weekend - hope we all get the weather! :)
  • Well it was a good weekend after all despite a coupl eof showers.

Put in carrots, beetroot and the peas that were started off. All under Plastic sheeting until the frost has gone, just as well with the car windows frozen this morning. Also started off lettuce, runner beans (early) and more tomatos indoors.

Have dug in chicken pellets and those liquid crystals in another patch and moved some of the strawberry plants which have taken over. Did everyone else have a productive weekend?

Hi Orange King, I've only posted on here a couple of times, but I sowed a few seeds yesterday to put on window ledges just to make myself feel that I was making a start on things - beetroot, lettuce, rocket, spinach, and a few other bits and bobs, together with some broad beans from a couple of weeks ago.

Am wondering whether to bother with tomatoes this year, as I get so upset when they succumb to the dreaded blight... :(

But the best thing yesterday was putting the cover back on the plastic greenhouse which blew off in the high winds about a month ago :)

    Hiya

So far sowed cucumber and sweet peas but with the conservatory as a childs area it's not always very sensible to use the window ledge space! No greenhouse so playing it carefully, though I've got my onions to put in and have asparagus and tom seeds - but agree with Saz, tomatoes 2009 were spectacular and we paid no attention to them. Last year they were dire!

    Good luck to everyone
