I think a lot depends on who is there at the same time as you. If there is a big crowd of people, I, and most people round here, will sort of take turns. Of course, its when some people are playing by different cultural rules that this falls down as the people waiting patiently regret letting someone take a turn who then doesn't play nice.
However, if no one else is waiting I feel that it is my lucky night and I take it all. if I can freeze it. After all- I can't know if anyone else will be turning up and I wouldn't like to see it thrown away...:j0 -
Mt local tescos reduces about 8pm. I ahng around and get enouch for a few days0

I'm so glad this post has come up. As a supermarket worker and a moneysaver I can see both sides. However many people that come especially for the reductions can be just plain rude. I have helped colleagues out when doing reductions and I have had food shoved in my face with "whats that at now" and "hurry up, i want this too..". I think for many people, the reduced food can come as a blessing, as it can extend your weekly amount of food for a few days and save a few pounds, but when I see people with a trolley full of food for that day it makes me mad. How can they possibly eat/freeze/use all that food. Last week I saw a man buy 15 nets of garlic because it was reduced!
I think it is simply down to manners, there is enough reduced food to go around and when I see some people shield the reduced cabinet and literally snatch the food from the workers hands after the label has been placed on, I think that it is plain selfish. I too, have also seen people hang around the supermarket for at least an hour and give back an item for it to be cheaper! From experience of you want some food to be reduced, politeness will get you everywhere!0 -
I would not clear a shelf. It never ceases to amaze me what excuses people come up with to behave selfishly. I think some have never learnt to calm down and 'share'. I try be more community minded because I think it is important.Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.0 -

I've been thinking of doing that for sometime - making mashed potato's that is, does it freeze ok? & how do you do freeze roasties??
Sorry this is off the thread guy's
I was surprised how well mashed spuds turned out after freezing - thought they might go watery but they were as good as fresh. I wonder if it depends on the type of potatoes being used??
I've never tried freezing roast ones.0 -
you should have shouted "oi greedy leave some for us!" :rotfl:
i love bargain hunting but i hate the vultures who use their trolleys to block the cabinet. i polietly move their trolley out of the road.
the other day the fruit & veg was being reduced and there were two women hovering, one at the end of the reducing ladies trolley. i went to check the price of a pack of watermelon and the woman at the end put her finger on the pack:eek:. i said " oh, are they yours?" and she made a face, she'd obviously decided to guard them till they were reduced further. life's too short, so we went off and 10 minutes later the same women were still hovering, snatching the bargains as soon as the label was on. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
I was in my local mr Ts at tea time today and there was a young assistant with a pricing gun in the fruit and veg whe had packs of strawberrys on her trolley and they weren't reduced so i just politely said to her are you going to reduce them and she smiled and said yes how many would u like and i smiled and said just 2 please she knocked them down from £1.99 to 50p because i asked her nicely she said she would have only knocked 50p off if I hadnt been so polite0

I have seen it happen where someone comes along and swipes the lot. However, I also live in London, shop with people who seem to have a similar attitude to mine and the unsaid rule is that you don't take everything- you at least offer one of what you have to someone besides you if you do take more then two of anything. On the occasion that someone has gone and tried to swipe the lot, enough people make a noise, people seem to back down- its actually quite funny to watch as your not sure if they are suddenly getting a shot of their conscience or if they are genuinely scared!
Most of the time people seem to ask politly to the man reducing things- we know how they can vanish at the blink of an eye to "get more roll" and then disappear...only to be found 15 mins later restocking loo roll 10 aisles down. Asking nicely, saying thankyou afterwards takes nothing, I'd imagine it goes a long way. It also makes me feel better for showing gratitude- without these reductions I doubt I'd be able to afford half of the food I do!0 -
if its a genuine buyer and not just someone stocking up for profit ie cafe then if there is no one else wanting the cheap stuff i see no problem in them "clearing the shelve" ,however if others are wanting the reduced food i find it very selfish when someone uses their trolley as a barrier, on a few occasions ive been just as rude bck and moved their troley out of the way ! oh supermarket politics lol0

yes i understand its there to be sold but theres taking a suitable amount for oneself and theres being greedy
...and theres standing there wishing food poisoning on those who are greedy...:rotfl::rotfl::D or a total lack of customers to places trying to pass off supermarket food as their own "home cooking".0
