Thank you! I'm already using 18866, but this one looks even better (eg 0.5p/min to the US instead of 2p/min, and cheaper for some non-geographical codes too).0 -

when I dialled the mobile no I got a message saying I had dialled the wrong connecting no. It gave me another no. that when dialled turned out to be a 20p/min no.
Is this because I'm with TalkTalk or has this happened to anyone with BT?0 -
IMPORTANT INFO RE THIS SERVICE.
The number has now been changed to a 20p a minute premium rate number
0905 6460 641.Your pay for the priviledge to find this out.Although their site https://www.cheapchatuk.co.uk does give new rate.
As i suspected in the first place, it was a sprat to catch a mackerel ,very short term promotion.
Cheapest suppliers are now the 4p a minute 0844 numbers of https://www.0844calls.co.uk or https://www.phonecheap.co.uk
But personally for consistency of price i would stick to https://www.18185.co.uk0 -

Can't say I'm surprised about the demise of Cheap Chat.
After all, anyone can buy a franchise from Ireland's Cubic Telecom and set up a cheap call service -- Cubic even supply the website and provider name.
Cheap Chat now appears to be an Ireland / Poland hybrid anyway: the UK 'presence' has vanished to be replaced by a company of the same name specialising in explicit pornographic websites offering phone sex. It's as sad and as sleazy as anything the UK telecommunications industry has yet devised. And is also a franchise operation.
Well done to Martin for junking Cheap Chat ASAP. But it does make me wonder, as per my earlier post, about these franchise operations: isn't there any UK regulation or UK licensing of them?0 -
URGENT AMENDMENT: just noticed from #27 that the link there is to a different provider than the one I mentioned -- apologies for the confusion. The service to which Martin referred (and has dropped) is still in business in the UK, even if at 20p a minute it's hardly likely to last very long. And no, it is not the phone sex provider. Apologies to cheapchatuk.0

Would it not be a good idea to remove your first post?0
