So i bought a topper and the first week it was better on my back but i still had the odd twinge but this week it seems to be just as bad. also i got the 7 inch one and i dont have any of the ' sinking into the mattress and not being able to turn over ' effects people say theyve had with this topper before. To the people who ve bought one did your back pain go away straight away or does it take a few weeks? Im getting very tired of being in pain every night esp after paying £100 for something that doesnt appear to be working.....0

Well you would know if it was only 3cm, as that is just over 1" deep. If they had done this then I would send it back, as it wouldn't be worth having.
Does it say anything about the density on the pack?0 -
Seeing as i threw the receipt away yesterday and have used it for over a week , i would nt be able to take it back anyway so hopefully it will improve. Just wondering if anyone who had one had an improvement to their back straight away or if it took a week or two.0

I bought an ultra luxury Harrison pocket sprung bed - at the expense it should be the most comfortable bed we have ever owned but sadly it is too firm for me to sleep on - frustrating back problem. So now I am trying to find any way to use it rather than consign it to the spare room. I have seen Tim's advice to get a 5cm 60kg mattress topper if getting one - but see that the 'It's time for bed' site recommends 45kg for people who like a soft bed and are not overweight. 45kg seems very soft indeed - anyone have any experience of this weight or of putting a topper onto a pocket sprung bed to make it softer?0

All new mattresses that are very different to your existing mattress can take a while to get used to. So if they don't have a returns policy, then I would give it a week or two to allow you back time to get used to it.0 -

Hmm, I can see after reading the advice in the 'it's time for bed' web site how you have become confused, as much of there advice is wrong.
Basically low density like 45kg won't give very good support at all, so you might as well just have a cheap reflex foam topper. Unless you are extremely light, then you will sink the full depth of the memory foam, and will still feel the firmness of the mattress underneath. If the density is very high, then it will give you excellent support, but the very slow recovery rate of the memory foam will make it very difficult to change position.
The mattress underneath the topper is very important. So all that would happen if you were to use a very low density topper on your Harrison mattress that you find too firm, is that your weight might be spread out slightly, but you will still have a firm mattress.
If you are trying to make a firm mattress feel softer, then you need a layer that unlike memory foam, actually has some bounce in it. If you have a Dunelm Mills store near you, then their teddy bear topper might be worth considering.0
