Agree with everyone else who says you're not being nosey.
It took years to make drinking and driving as unacceptable as it now is. The same should go for using mobile phones while driving.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. My employer will not supply hands-free kits and has a policy that employees must not use a mobile phone whilst driving, we must stop to answer/make the call.
Failure to do so (if caught) is a disciplinary matter.
That's how it should be for all employers in my opinion.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -
Personally I think that driving whilst on a mobile should carry a driving ban, use the same scales as drink driving, since there were some studies that suggest it is just as dangerous.0

But do you feel any better when you do this? Nothing can undo the terrible things that happened to your brother and I can't help but feel you might be subconsciously trying to 'fix' things. It's totally understandable why you feel like this but you need to be careful that by doing this, you don't start spiralling into some campaign or obsession. It's strange that it's always the same company. I hope that this is a coincidence (i.e. that the driver who hurt your brother didn't work for this company!). If, when you report these drivers, you ever feel hollow or bereft afterwards, then it's time to question why you're doing it.
I'm sorry if this sounds a bit finger-wagging; I honestly don't mean it to. Most people get fed up with seeing people drive badly. Most people put it in context and don't feel the need to do anything further. I'm just a little concerned that this is part of your grieving for the man your brother used to be and that you might actually end up hurting yourself further if you don't try to let go a little. But I've probably completely overstepped the mark and made assumptions when I know nothing about you. Sorry if that's the case.
Hello Fluffnutter
I in no way think that you have overstepped the mark,in fact i would say that you may have hit the nail on the head in many respects.I think that my eyes are now attuned to people who have there hands at the side of there heads when they are driving,it makes me look now a lot more than i did in the past.
I cannot do anything about individuals who are using there mobiles whilst driving, however i have always got in contact with companys, and there have been a few to inform them that there drivers are breaking the law.It is this one company who have many, many vehicles on the road that i have seen on three occasions now over a period of four months, there employees using the phone whilst driving.
I used to be like many people now who probably do not notice it,but i now first hand know the effects, the real effects of this seemingly minor offence. If i could take people who use there mobiles to see my brother, let them see the effects of there actions im sure it would make a difference...or would it.
Thankyou all for your replies.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -

I see that there are two parties at fault here. Firstly the company for not supplying a suitable hands free kit in their vehicles but also the drivers for not switching off their phones.
I sometimes drive a company vehicle with no hands free facility so I switch the 'phone off.
This all depends on whether they are work phones though, if they are personal phones then there is obviously no obligation by the company and also even if they are company phones if they have a policy of the drivers not answering until they are safe to by pulling over etc then they can't be accountable again. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

BT drivers are by far the worst where I live.0

Sorry, but this is incorrect, this may well be the case if the employer is driving his own personal vehicle, but a company vehicle will include personal or business phones, akin to the smoking ban and the "hows my driving - phone....." in company vehicles.Googlewhacker wrote: »This all depends on whether they are work phones though, if they are personal phones then there is obviously no obligation by the company and also even if they are company phones if they have a policy of the drivers not answering until they are safe to by pulling over etc then they can't be accountable again.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Please report them. Another life doesn't need to be ruined or by these idiots that can't leave the call to later or pull over for a few minutes. You are not being nosey at all. I'll be reporting the same from now on, people need to learn that its not fair to take other peoples lives into their own hands in such a careless way.0

Please dont feel bad about reporting these people.
Had someone reported the driver in your brothers accident, it may not have happened. If the people you see out and about are careless enough to drive whilst using a mobile, thats their problem. Its not for you to worry that they might lose their jobs.
I am sending my thoughts to you and your family and hope that in time, your brother will make as reasonable a recovery as he can xxI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. sorry to hear this , are you currently claiming against the driver/company for compensation because i think you would have a strong caseIn 2008 my brother was involved in a car accident...(not his fault) the driver of the other car was using his mobile whilst driving. My brother suffered a broken neck, broken back and suffered Traumatic brain injury, two and a half years on he is still in a Brain rehabilitation unit.
I have to admit that before his accident,i did not really notice people using there mobiles whislt driving,as you could well understand this is now a big bugbear of mine and i hate it now when i see people driving whilst using there mobile phones.
There has now been three occasions where i have spotted drivers from a certain company using there mobiles whilst driving and i have reported them to the company,i am always loathe to give the registration number because i really dont want anybody to be fired because of something that they may have only ever done once, but i continually see employees of this same company using there mobiles whilst driving.should i start giving details i.e the registration number of the vehicle, place where i saw it so on....
I have had three emails in response from this company to me telling them that there employees are breaking the law by doing this, and each email has said thankyou and we will investigate.
Or am i just being a nosy !!!!!!,and should leave well alone?
My brother before his accident was a strong independent man,he will now need care for the rest of his life because someone could not be bothered to pull over to use there phone.
Thankyou.
