In 2008 my brother was involved in a car accident...(not his fault) the driver of the other car was using his mobile whilst driving. My brother suffered a broken neck, broken back and suffered Traumatic brain injury, two and a half years on he is still in a Brain rehabilitation unit.
I have to admit that before his accident,i did not really notice people using there mobiles whislt driving,as you could well understand this is now a big bugbear of mine and i hate it now when i see people driving whilst using there mobile phones.
There has now been three occasions where i have spotted drivers from a certain company using there mobiles whilst driving and i have reported them to the company,i am always loathe to give the registration number because i really dont want anybody to be fired because of something that they may have only ever done once, but i continually see employees of this same company using there mobiles whilst driving.should i start giving details i.e the registration number of the vehicle, place where i saw it so on....
I have had three emails in response from this company to me telling them that there employees are breaking the law by doing this, and each email has said thankyou and we will investigate.
Or am i just being a nosy !!!!!!,and should leave well alone?
My brother before his accident was a strong independent man,he will now need care for the rest of his life because someone could not be bothered to pull over to use there phone.
Thankyou.

What a terrible situation for your brother.
I see that there are two parties at fault here. Firstly the company for not supplying a suitable hands free kit in their vehicles but also the drivers for not switching off their phones.
I sometimes drive a company vehicle with no hands free facility so I switch the 'phone off. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
No you aren't being nosy, its illegal and dangerous but have the drivers on the road do it. I would start giving their registration numbers to the company aswell because either the company aren't bothering to tell their staff or the drivers are just ignoring them. You may even prevent an accident by doing this and save someone else from suffering the way your family have, people are so lazy these days - it takes hardly any time or effort to pull over.0

i totally agree, an ex boyfriend of mine was walking along the pavement when a driver using his mobile hit him, he had such severe internal injuries he died later that day,
also 8 years ago a lorry driver was using his phone while driving and swerved into the path of my friends car, all 5 people in the car lost their lives through his carelessness, while he walked away without a scratch.
all it takes is a few mins to pull over and safely use your phone, it can save livestrying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -

I find that awful,....Carelessness! thats a word i heard quite a lot from the family liason officer that was appointed to see us through the court case.
The driver of the vehicle recieved in court a £115.00 fine with a victim surcharge which i believe was £25.00 and was ordered to retake his test.but what sounds familiar is that he walked away without a scratch quote..well not quite without a scratch he fractured his wrist.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -
They have said that they are investigating but clearly haven't done anything to repremand the staff.
I would be inclined to make a note of the registration plates and let the company know. I wouldn't expect the company to sack someone for a one off incident but it could also be the same persistant offenders.0 -
Absolutely you should give them all the information you have. Who cares if they lose their job? it is entirely their fault not yours!0

You're not being nosey at all. I don't like seeing people using their mobiles whilst driving - it's dangerous, it's an offence, and I don't like that arrogant attitude that thinks that rules only apply to others.
But do you feel any better when you do this? Nothing can undo the terrible things that happened to your brother and I can't help but feel you might be subconsciously trying to 'fix' things. It's totally understandable why you feel like this but you need to be careful that by doing this, you don't start spiralling into some campaign or obsession. It's strange that it's always the same company. I hope that this is a coincidence (i.e. that the driver who hurt your brother didn't work for this company!). If, when you report these drivers, you ever feel hollow or bereft afterwards, then it's time to question why you're doing it.
I'm sorry if this sounds a bit finger-wagging; I honestly don't mean it to. Most people get fed up with seeing people drive badly. Most people put it in context and don't feel the need to do anything further. I'm just a little concerned that this is part of your grieving for the man your brother used to be and that you might actually end up hurting yourself further if you don't try to let go a little. But I've probably completely overstepped the mark and made assumptions when I know nothing about you. Sorry if that's the case."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
to the op - so sorry to read what happened to your brother. I hope his recovery is going well.
I see drivers all the time on their mobile phones, and i cannot understand why they do it?.. I actually saw about two weeks ago a met police officer in his police car (he was alone in his vehicle) driving the car on a main busy road, with his mobile phone stuck to his ear. if i hadn't been driving and had my two kids in the car i would have taken down the plate number and made a complaint, but i didn't have the chance too do so. Made me really mad too see that.0 -
There is nothing Nosey about reporting someone dangerously swinging a 2 n half+ton metallic object into the path of other people, whilst not paying the slightest bit of attention of who might get clobbered.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
