if it's a faster processor he may have swapped motherboard - which has a different chipset and could conflict..0

Some motherboards may need winXP service pack one to install the USB2 stuff correctly (Nforce2 based MB). Try and find out what motherboard you have.

Hi,
This all sounds a bit strange to me. So let's have a think - Everything eventually works and therefore there are onlly a few possibilities that remain:
a) possible driver problem. Can you back up your system and do a basic install to see if the issues persist.
Might sound stupid but:
1) If the problems persist then I would suspect the M/B or other hardware. Given that you have had a partial upgrade then the m/b might be "strained" or some of the system components might not be working that well at a faster speed.
2) If the problems go away, then you definitely have a software/driver problem .... and you are halfway to rebuilding your PC by now anyway.
b) Possibly a hardware problem. You should be able to show that this is an issue in 1 above. If so, then I would ask Mr PC to fix it. Personally I always replace the MB, CPU and RAM and I always buy them from the same vendor, so if there is an issue, then they get the whole lot back. There is little point in upgrading at a lower component level as the cost difference is minimal.
Hope this helps - pm me if you need more.
And you can have a cyberhug too !0 -

Right click my computer,
properties
hardware
device manager
make sure they're still there under DVD / CD Rom Drives.. if they have a yellow or red blob, click them and delete, then reboot and see if they pick them up
I they're not showing under there then they might not be being recognised in the bios.. Then pop the lid off and check the cables are plugged in correctly at the CD drives and at the motherboard end - just follow the cables down0 -
