It also produced an email Mrs. Barnard sent, in which she wrote: "I guess we are fortunate my eardrum was exploding, and I was swallowing blood.
"Had it not been for that, I would have dragged that kid out of his mother’s arms and stomped him to death. Then we would have an 'international incident.'"
From the above - I think it's a bit extreme for the old lady to suggest she would have killed the infant if she hadn't been in pain.
I think the majority of parents do their best to keep their kids quiet when flying, and most keep them occupied in their seats and not let them run around the cabin - the only problem we ever had with our DD when she was younger was crying when we were close to landing as she used to get terrible trouble with her ears despite our best efforts.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Kids that young or that cant behave surely shouldnt be on an aeroplane? I'm not in a position to comment personally being 22 with no little ones, but the 2 times I have been on a plane and had to endure some brat screaming its head off I can definitely sympathise with the old woman. Not sure it was so clever to send an email like that though :rotfl:0

People like that old woman infuriate me! Do they think we WANT our child screaming for the duration of a flight?! Its hard enough keeping them entertained without worrying about other passengers as well. As if a childs scream could possibly have left her deaf. God, i'd be deaf as a doorknob by now if that were the case! My son also has problems with his ears, & he gets really upset at take off & landing. I do my best to keep him quiet & calm but short of sticking a muzzle on him, what am I expected to do? Not travel anywhere til he's old enough to realise he cant scream? I dont think so.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0

            only an american would sue!
i agree that "some" parents do not control their children properly but sometimes it is impossible to stop the crying.
my 2 year old has travelled to america with us and has plenty of stuff to occupy her through flight like books, puzzles, drawing equipment and plenty of disney films/cartoons loaded on iphone.but when coming in to land she has been known suffer with popping ears, you can do your best to comfort her but it is just one of those things.0 -
For me its not the crying babies (as I can see parents trying to soothe them - it's the ones that seem to be deaf to their own child's desperate cries that does annoy me but they are few and far between), its the toddlers who are left to run up and down the plane while the parents SLEEP or the kids who constantly kick the back of other peoples seats for hours (I saw this on the return flight from Hong Kong - the passenger being knocked constantly complained and the parents said they allowed their child freedom to express themselves - unfortunately there were no spare seats but the couple behind the parents/child offered to swap for a while whereby the woman kicked their seat constantly until they agreed that they would stop their child from doing it). A bit of consideration and a lot of apologising (by parents) works wonders.:j:T Total Prize Value 2012 - £1835 :T:j

what's worse?
the kids who cry a bit or drunk roudy adults who swear and shout all the way through the flight - having experienced both, give me the kids any day0 -

Try sedation next time, highly effective just Google "Kiddie Meds"
It may be a baby, but at the moment it opens its mouth it becomes a brat, hence why I always resort to Bose noise cancelling earphones, a huge glass of red and a valium to guarantee a peaceful flight.0 -

Well, I know everyone is different, but I wouldn't choose to subject my child to something which causes them so much distress.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
